Maths: This half term we will learn about…

Multiplication and Division

- Multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100

- Formal written methods for multiplying and dividing 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers

Length and Perimeter

- Equivalent lengths (km and m)

- Perimeters of rectangles, rectilinear shapes and polygons

We will continue to revise previous times tables through our TT Rockstars sessions.

PE:

Working each week with WLSP, the children will take part in Outdoor Adventurous Activities on the school field. Teachers will be leading lessons in Health and Fitness.

Year 4 Spring Half-term 1:

English: Our quality text will be ‘My Name is River’. As part of our English curriculum, students will unleash their creativity by creating narrative descriptions inspired by this beautiful tale. Children will also write letters inspired by the characters from the text as well as writing a persuasive text linked to the issues of deforestation. We will continue to look at the grammatical features used for writing in Year 4 such as superlative adjectives.

History: This area of the curriculum has been covered in Autumn 1 and 2 and will be covered in Summer 1.

Science: Life Processes

We will identify the seven life processes and group and classify living things according to their features. We will be taking part in an invertebrate hunt and studying the local habitat and environmental changes.

Geography: Why Are Rainforests

Important To Us?

We will focus on the link between biomes and climate. Children will locate the Amazon rainforest and explain how the vegetation in a tropical rainforest is defined by the two Tropics. They will investigate the physical features and layers of the Amazon rainforest, considering how plants adapt to these conditions. Children will learn about the people who live in the rainforest and discuss the impact of human activity locally and globally.

Music: Lean on Me and Wider Musical

Opportunities.

Children will either begin to learn a woodwind instrument or complete a unit of music linked to the song Lean on Me. They will learn simple melodies on the glockenspiel and explore how to use their voices through singing sessions.

Art/Design and Technology: The Fabric of Nature.

Using the flora and fauna of tropical rainforests as a starting point, we will develop drawings through experimentation and textile-based techniques to design a repeating pattern suitable for fabric.

RE: In RE, we will be investigating the key questions, why do some people think that life is a journey? and what significant experiences mark this?

Computing

: Further Coding with Scratch

During computer sessions children will create a simple script in scratch, using decomposition and understanding what variables are.

Design Technology – This area of the curriculum will be covered in Spring 2.

Year 4 Spring Half-term 1:

PSHE: Being Responsible

This module helps children to develop a deeper understanding of being responsible for themselves and how their actions can affect those around them. Throughout the topics, the children explore a range of situations that they may face now and in the future, which helps them to gain an understanding of how behaviour can be considerate, sensible, and responsible.

Spanish: Los instrumentos musicales / Musical instruments

Children will:

• Name and recognise up to 10 instruments in Spanish.

• Attempt to spell some of these nouns with their correct definite article/determiner in Spanish.

• Learn how to say" I play an instrument" in Spanish.
