Summer 2012 saw the completion of a £23.7 million development to our campus which has created an excellent learning environment for students. Principal’s message We are a high-achieving sixth form, giving our students an excellent springboard to success. We educate the whole student, providing all with excellent teaching and opportunities for growth and personal development. We are recognised by Ofsted as an outstanding sixth form. We are relatively small in size. This means that we are a close and caring community of staff and students. Inspiring Learning First Class facilities
Blackpool Sixth boasts first class facilities and state-of-the-art, professional standard equipment in all areas and ICT including the latest Apple Mac computers throughout the college. In August 2011, we opened a 300 seat theatre and drama studios which complement “The Frame”, our open-plan studio for visual arts. This followed the creation of new science laboratories and new classrooms throughout the campus.
There are also two large learning resource areas, a large sports hall and gym, social areas and a variety of dining options including a Starbucks coffee shop.

Specialist teaching
All our teaching staff are highly qualified specialists who are experts in teaching 16 to 19 year olds. They treat you as individuals and give you all the support you need to reach your full potential. Many of our staff are also examiners for their subjects and this helps them make sure that you are excellently prepared for your exams.

Personal development
We offer a huge range of over 70 enrichment activities including team and individual sports, an exciting outdoor pursuits programme and, for the adventurous, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award Scheme. There are bands, languages, photography, the Debating Society, community service and work experience options. There are opportunities to travel abroad on ski trips, music tours and projects in countries as diverse as the US and India. Whatever your interests, you will find our sixth form a friendly and fun environment. Your days here will provide you with enough great memories for a lifetime.
Building your future Blackpool Sixth students are SUCCESSFUL students. Our A level pass rate in 2012 is above the national average at over 98% and many of our students achieve a string of top level passes. In 2012, over half of the qualifications achieved were top grades (A*, A, B or equivalent) including 273 A* A-level and distinction star BTEC grades. Every year a number of students progress to Oxford and Cambridge and some 80% of students progress to university and other higher education courses. The remainder choose good career opportunities with further training.

Celebrating Success Our students achieved an excellent set of A level and BTEC results in August 2012. The A level pass rate has remained over 98% despite a 10% increase in students taking A level or BTEC courses.

Remarkably, over half of the qualifications achieved were top grades (A*, A, B or equivalent) including 273 A* A-level and distinction star BTEC grades. Thirty-five courses at Blackpool Sixth had pass rates of 100%. This is especially notable as this year the sixth form had a record number of students taking exams.
Top results for students from the Fylde A number of students from the Fylde achieved some excellent results and progressed onto top university destinations.
Former LSA Technology and Performing Arts College students Michael Moore and Ben Clarkson achieved excellent results. Michael (pictured left) gained an A*, two As and now studies Medicine at St George’s, University of London. Ben (pictured right) gained two A*s, two As and a C and has secured employment at Champion Accountants to train towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. Michael and Ben are pictured with Zuriaha Waffa, formerly of Collegiate High School, who achieved an A and two Bs and is taking a gap year before studying medicine in London.
Former LSA Technology and Performing Arts College student Georgie Toft is studying Business Management at the University of Durham after gaining two A and two B grades. Georgie is pictured with Emma Perkins who gained a triple distinction star in BTEC Health and Social Care and an A in here EPQ.
Former Saint Bede’s Catholic High School students Jennie Love (far left) and George Manton achieved top grades in their BTEC courses. Jennie achieved a double distinction star in BTEC Performing Arts, an A in Fine Art and a B in Media Studies. Jennie is planning to go to theatre school after taking a gap year. George received double distinction star grade in Creative Media Production. and has progressed to study Film and TV Production at the University of Westminster.
Talented musician, Niamh Boadle, gained two A*s, an A and a B and has progressed to study Folk and Traditional Music at Newcastle University. Niamh is a former LSA Technology and Performing Arts College. Niamh commented, “I am over the moon with my A in Maths, I didn’t think I would be able to get that but I’ve had great support from my tutors.” Niamh is pictured with Highfield Humanities College student, Chloe Hemsworth, who gained three A grades in Economics, French and Maths and will now study Economics and French at Nottingham University.
Oxbridge success Three students achieved the demanding grades needed to progress to Oxford and Cambridge universities. Former Hodgson Academy student Dan Moore gained an A* and 3 A grades and reads Music at the University of Oxford. Chris Powers, formerly of Montgomery High School, has secured a place at the University of Cambridge reading History. Lynette Parkinson, formerly of St Aidan’s Church of England Technology College, gained an A*, two As and a B and is reading Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Cambridge.

Pre-Sixth Taster Day
In the summer term, our Pre-Sixth Taster Day is a chance for you to spend a full day getting a taster for the courses you would like to take and generally get a feeling for the sixth form environment. In 2013, this exciting event will be held on Friday 28th June and Monday 1st July. You will be invited to attend on one of two days. For more information visit www.blackpoolsixth.ac.uk.
Enrolment Days
On Enrolment Day, you are invited into sixth form to make your final choice of courses. In 2013, our Enrolment Days will be held on GCSE results day and the following day. You will receive all the information and guidance you need to get started and become fully involved in sixth form life.
Financial support for you There are four types of financial support available to students in 2012-13: 1. Guaranteed Bursary of £1,200 for students in the most need
Strong pastoral care, support and guidance is extremely important in contributing to students’ success.
2. Income-assessed Bursary of £700 for students who meet the Free School Meals criteria 3. Subsidised Transport for students who live more than three miles from sixth form 4. Hardship Fund, an emergency fund, for students who experience short-term financial hardship who are struggling to meet costs associated with sixth form * These figures are based on financial support available to new students in 2012/13 and may change for new students in 2013/14.
Save money on the cost of transport Blackpool Sixth recognises that the cost of transport is a major concern for some students and their families. We work with local transport providers to offer big travel savings for students living outside a three-mile radius of the college. This scheme not only helps with transport costs to and from Blackpool Sixth but also provides unlimited travel throughout the day, including evenings and weekends. Bus service to and from Freckleton, Warton, Lytham and St Annes For students living in the Fylde area, Blackpool Sixth provides its own affordable bus service to and from Freckleton, Warton, Lytham and St Annes and works with local transport providers to offer big travel savings for students.
