A report by Florence, Addie, Olivia, Esmee, Violet, Charlotte and Ella
A few weeks ago, we had a special inspection of our school. The posh inspectors asked all the teachers lots of questions and they even came into our classes. “In Willow Class, an inspector came to our PE lesson” reported Florence Bremner from Willow Class. Olivia Heyes from Rowan Class said “We had an inspector in our Maths lesson. They didn’t say much but they watched what we were doing”.
After a few weeks, the inspectors sent a report to Mrs Hodgson. We were excited to get it because we love our school! We have reported on some of the things they said.
The inspectors wrote that the children like the care and support they get at school from all the teachers, TAs and dinner ladies and it makes us feel safe at school. “I agree totally” said Esmee. I love coming to this school”.
In the report, the inspectors were happy with everyone’s manners. “We have good manners at Heyhouses” reported Ella. “We have a special jar of pom poms in the hall at dinner time and if we show good manners we collect pom poms in the jar. We have filled our jar so we will get a surprise!”
In Mulberry class an inspector watched the Art lesson with Mrs Barnes. “The inspector sat near some children and chatted about what we were doing. We were using a picture frame to draw close ups of animal skins, and we copied it into our books,” said Ella Bagwell from Mulberry Class.
Addie Mason from Willow Class said that the inspectors liked the calm classrooms. “The inspectors said the classrooms were calm, but we do run around like mad things in the playground!” laughed Addie. Charlotte Woodall from Rowan Class said that “if you scream and shout in the classroom you would have to go and see the
There are loads of clubs and activities at Heyhouses. We do lots of sports and we go on visits. “We have just been to the Pantomime and it was brilliant because we went on the coach!” said Addie. “The Ofsted inspectors wrote about all our brilliant extra activities in the report.”
“I like that the inspectors saw our reading” said Violet Finley from Rowan Class. “We have new books for our literacy lessons and they are brilliant!”

I loved the movie, Paddington in Peru. I really liked this film because the characters are funny. My favourite characters are Judy and Paddington. The Brown family travel to Peru to find Aunt Lucy who has gone missing. They get a boat and go looking in the jungle for her. Which was very big! There are bad guys in the film and not all is at it seems!
Paddington in Peru
You can watch Paddington in St Annes Island cinema. It is great for families. My sister is 3 and loved it. There were people every age watching it!
At the beginning they show you trailers of all the movies coming out soon so I recommend The Minecraft movie which is out in January. It looks very fun! I will review that for you too. Tickets = £4.99
The film started with Paddington and the Brown family in London. They received a letter from Peru and decided to go on an adventure. The characters in this film are the Brown family and Paddington. Paddington gets a letter off a nun in Peru, and he travels to Peru to find Aunt Lucy. He gets into such a lot of trouble! He gets stuck in a boat with a guy called Mr Hunter and his daughter who try to stop Paddington. They are hunting for gold, and they think Paddington is going to search for it too, so all sorts of trouble unfolds! It is a really good film that is also funny. It is a film for everyone. It will make you feel all warm inside and it would be a great film, to watch in the run up to Christmas! I would give it 5 stars!

A book review by
Florence Bremner
The story is by Roald Dahl I would rate this book 5 stars
George’s Marvellous Medicine. This is a story about a little boy called George. It was a quiet street that George lived on. George’s parents worked on a noisy farm with sheep, cows, chickens and horses. His parents are called Mr. Killy Cranky and Mrs Cranky and there were no children for George to play with and he was quiet and lonely.
George has a grandma who isn’t very nice at all and a bit rude! She has pale brown disgusting teeth and a small puckered-up mouth like a dog’s bottom. George mixes lots of sticky and slobbery things together in a large pot and throws in the powdered bone of a wombat’s knee.
Have you read any of these?
My favourite part of the story is when his grandma grew into the sky that was bigger than houses and it made her skinny . George makes the new medicine to make his grandma good. You will have to read the book to find out if the medicine will work….

Now, back to the explaining! The letter burns into bits and flies up the chimney to the north pole.

The Girl and the Dinosaur
by Hollie Hughes and Sarah Massini
My favourite book is called ‘The Girl and the Dinosaur’. The main character in the story is Marianne who likes to dig for dinosaur bones on the beach. The fishermen worry about her because they think that she needs to make friends, but Marianne is more interested in making dinosaur friends. One night Bony, her dinosaur friend, comes to life and they go to magical lands.
A Book review by Mrs Kimber
I really like this story because there is a girl as a main character, and I think that dinosaurs are really interesting. There is lots of magic in the story too, including magical animals like unicorns, fairies and giants.
The
Christmasaurus by
Tom Fletcher
I would say that children between the ages of 4-8 would enjoy this book.
I absolutely love this story by Tom Fletcher, and I have read it to all my Year 2 classes every year just before Christmas. It’s a story that has everything! It’s really funny – also a bit sad in parts and it has some scary bits! The characters are brilliant. William Trundle is an adventurous little boy who is crazy about dinosaurs. He uses a wheelchair, but he never lets that stop him from doing anything! His Dad, Bob Trundle is the biggest fan of
Christmas in the world. He wears Christmas jumpers all year round! There is a really, really mean girl in the book called Brenda Payne – when we read about her, we always end up putting her name on the red traffic light!! Her behaviour is so bad its shocking!! We get to meet Santa and his elves, and we learn such a lot about Christmas! Best of all, William gets a new best friend – The Christmasaurus! The pair get themselves into (and out of!) a lot of sticky situations! This is without doubt my most favourite book – especially at Christmas. The second book is called The Christmasaurus and the White Witch. That is a very exciting story with so many twists and turns. I hope you will love these books as much as we do in Year 2!

Our Fantastic reporters Addie Mason, Florence Bremner and Alice Riley from Willow Class have been finding out all about UK Parliament Week!
UK Parliament Week began in 2011 as an annual event to inform and educate young people about the work and role of Parliament across the UK and it has grown ever since. It is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to learn about what Parliament is, what it does and how to get involved. This year over 2 million young people set out to learn about the work, role, and journey of a parliament.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, said, “In a General Election year, with a new government, recent State Opening of Parliament, and a Budget, politics has rarely been out of the news.”
The Lord Speaker, Lord McFall of Alcluith, said, “As a former teacher, I know how important it is that young people engage with democracy and understand how they can express their views and make them heard. As well as exploring and explaining the UK Parliament and ways to get involved, this year’s UKPW shone a spotlight on the various roles and people who help to keep our Parliament running.”

Addie, Florence and Alice belong to their local Rainbows group and they got involved thinking carefully about how to make changes to improve our country. They gathered their ideas together and the girls and their friends wrote to our local MP, Andrew Snowden to share their thoughts.
“We were so excited that he wrote back to us!” said Addie. “It is very special to receive a letter on special headed paper from the Houses of Parliament! And he liked all our ideas!”
Every year it’s fantastic to see so many people actively take part in UK Parliament Week.”
Perhaps we will see one of our girls as Prime Minister in a few years time! Well done Addie, Florence, Alice and all the Rainbows!
Fran Jeens, Head of Education and Engagement at UK Parliament, said: “UK Parliament Week is a great opportunity for people of all ages to get informed about how they can engage with UK Parliament to make a difference.

Our reporters Henry Kirton, Arthur Edwards and Zach Roscoe interviewed Mr Fish, our champion football coach all about his dream trip to Wembley!
On 12th January this year, Heyhouses under 11s girls football club represented AFC Fylde in the National League Trust Cup final at the Wembley Stadium in London. They played exceptionally well and beat the Slough Town side 1-0 in a very exciting match.
The girl’s team at Heyhouses won the right to represent their local National League club by winning a Fylde tournament for school teams at AKS. They then triumphed again in the NorthWest finals in Oldham and the Northern finals in Chesterfield to earn their place in the Wembley final.
The whole team had a fantastic experience. They got to go in the changing rooms at the famous stadium, as well as walking out through the iconic tunnel onto the famous pitch. The girls played incredibly well and won their match 1-0.

Hot off the Heyhouses Press Issue 1 December 2024…
The girls’ winning goal came from a deflected throw, but Heyhouses were unlucky not to have scored more goals as Violet hit the post twice! The other members of the triumphant team, coached by Mr Fish, are: Allana, Amelia, Amelie, Grace, Lottie and Mia. Several of the girls are also clubmates with CN Sports Wildcats.
The amazing girls were crowned Champions in the final at Wembley Stadium!
Another of their coaches was Dan Monckton, school’s services manager for AFC Fylde Community Foundation.
Dan said: “The girls did themselves, all of their families and everyone at AFC Fylde proud. The way they conducted themselves on and off the pitch, not just at Wembley but in all the other rounds, was exemplary and a credit to both their parents and Heyhouses. For them to win one tournament was fantastic, but to win three and then win the National final at Wembley is something they rightly will remember for the rest of their lives!
Some professional footballers go all of their career wanting to play at Wembley, let alone win a trophy there, and these girls have already done that at such a young age, it's genuinely what dreams are made of.”
The brilliant girls team all climbed the famous stairs to collect their trophy from the Royal box! Well done Mr Fish and the fantastic Heyhouses Girls football team!
