Is Applied ICT for you? • You must have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above.
You are exploring the possibility of a career in ICT.

Working to a Brief
Using ICT to communicate You will evaluate a range of existing business documents, exploring different styles of presentation and use this as a basis for creating your own documents for a specific organisation. You will develop core skills of planning, development, evaluation and bibliographies alongside the creation of leaflets, letters and web pages.
How organisations use ICT You will learn about the different functions of ICT within organisations as well as the different systems used. You will work to a brief to prepare a variety of documents.
ICT solutions for individuals and society You will examine public service websites and search engines and will acquire the valuable skill of being able to search the internet efficiently. You will also use a database and produce a spreadsheet to analyse data.
You will receive a brief and subsequently plan, develop and deliver a project, evaluating your work along the way.
Interactive Multimedia products You will review and evaluate interactive multimedia products which play an important role in entertainment, education and providing information, and consider their design. You will then design one of your own, testing, describing and evaluating it.
Developing and creating websites You will learn about the requirements for setting up a website and the terminology relating to the internet. You will also explore web server requirements and the principles of design and planning. You will explore technical details such as testing, uploading as well as understanding laws and guidelines.
How will I be assessed? Assessment is almost all through coursework, with one AS module assessed by exam. Coursework will involve the preparation of reports, spreadsheets, letters, leaflets and web pages using a variety of different software packages.
What activities can I get involved in? The College has lots of exciting enrichment and C.V building opportunities including the chance to earn the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, learn a new skill, learn a language, join a club, take up or develop a sport or take on a new challenge. Where does it lead? Applied ICT offers a good foundation for many careers and it also provides an extremely valuable addition to many other career routes. After studying this subject you may consider an Apprenticeship in industry, or take up a trainee post as an ICT technician or operator. Many students choose to progress on to Higher Education and there are a wide variety of courses to suit all preferences including Networking, Multimedia Technologies, Software Engineering and Business Information Systems.
