St Peter’sPrimaryis a Church school situatedin the villageof Caverswall,in rural Staffordshire and accepts children between the agesof4 and 11.Therehasbeena school on the site for well over150 years.Theoriginalschool buildinghasbeendevelopedoverthis time and providesawarm and welcomingplace for children to achievetheir potentialand developa loveoflearning.
Our links with St Peter’sCofE Church areverystrong andthe school is an importantpart ofthe local community.Weoffer awiderange of extra-curricular activitiesand staff work hard to provideopportunities for children to enjoyavarietyoflearning experiencesinsideand outsideschool.

Curriculum, Clubs and Activities
At St Peter’s we have developed an exciting curriculum that captures the imagination of the childrenin our school.(See left for some examples). Lessons encourage the childrento ask questions, plan and resourcework independently and evaluate how well they have done. Children will take part in creative themed days, assemblies for parents, musical productionsand take on rolesin Churchservices. Class trips as well as whole schoolvisits to the theatre are encouraged to promotea love of learning in our children.The Y6 pupils are also lucky enough to enjoy a residential outdooreducational tripwhich includes climbing and archery.
The Order of the Griffin
Children use criteria that supportscharacteristicsof effective learning that will encourage life long learners.Badges can be won throughoutthe year, with a goldaward going to childrenwho collect all six Griffins.
Clubs and Activities
We aim to provideas much extended schoolprovisionas possible so the childrencan socialise and play together whilst getting the opportunityto try new things that may not be onthe school curriculum. We offer as much variety as we can and aim to cater for all different interests and needs. Examples include: Cheerleading Club Gardening Club, Netball, FootballClub, Bubble Sport, Gymnastics and Battle Archery.
Wrap Around
The schoolruns an in house Breakfast Club from 7:45am until the start of school.The children can have a Breakfast and enjoy a variety of activities. Children can also go to our After Schoolclub where childrenmake pizza, have a snack and complete homework.This club runs until 5:30pm. Both clubs are an additionalcost, contact office for currenttariff.
Food in school
The school has its own, on site kitchen, which prepares hot meals for pupils. There is a three week rotation of menu with two choices each day, including vegetables or salad to ensure a healthy balanced diet which is available to view on the school website. We are committed to ensuring that the pupils receive the best possible foodin their school meals. We do not use processed foods.Parents will select and order meals at home using our cypad app.
Free school meals
Free school meals are available for all children in Key Stage 1, and in Key Stage 2 to those children who are in receipt of Universal credit,Income support,Incomebased jobseeker’s allowance or employment and support allowance, support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum act 1999, the guaranteed element of Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit (as long as you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, Working Tax Credit run on or Universal Credit.) Please speak to the school office for more information. Reception children receive free milk daily.
Packed lunch
We encourage pupils who eat a packed lunch to enjoy a balanced diet. We ask that you support the school in its policy by ensuring packed lunches include a balanced, healthy choice of food.See NHS Live Well for Children website for suggestions at http://www.nhs.uk/ livewell/yourchildatschool/ and look under the Healthy Lunchbox Treats section. If your child brings a packed lunch to school, it must be in an unbreakable container, clearly labelled with the child’s name and class. Definitely no glass containers for drinks please. Fizzy drinks are not allowed.
Dinner money
The cost of a school meal for children in the Foundation 1 Class and Key Stage 2 is currently £2.45 . Parents should pay for their child’s meal on Mondays each week through our parent pay system
Break Time Snack
Children can order a range of snacks from the kitchen at the beginning of the week. Reception can order toast. Year 1-6 have the choice of toast and cheese oatcakes. These items are at an additional cost. Please ensure children do not bring in biscuits, crisps or chocolate bars for snack time.
Water bottles
We encourage all pupils to bring a water bottle which they can refill throughout the day. Water only please. Repeated drinking of juice causes erosion of enamel. Also hydration is important and aidslearning, we encourage children to drink water regularly. Children should bring in a named water bottle from home or purchase a school bottle £4 from the Office.
Fruit and drinks
All children in Foundation 2, Year 1 and Year 2 are also provided with fruit every day. If your child has any allergies, please ensure your child’s class teacher is made aware so that an alternativefruit may be provided that day.
Behaviour
We believe pupils learnbest when they are in a safe and happy environment. We are in no doubtthat such an environment is providedat St Peter's and is fundamental to learning, progressand positive personal development. We encourage pupils to respect the feelings of all other members of the schoolcommunity and behave in a manner which does not bring themselves or the schoolinto disrepute. We have a ‘positive behaviour for learning’ policy which is available on our website or upon request at the schooloffice.
