Nutrition NUTRITION, EPIGENETICS AND HEALTH edited by Graham Burdge & Karen Lillycrop (University of Southampton, UK)
Epigenetics is emerging as an important factor in risk of diseases of global importance including obesity, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Unlike gene polymorphisms which have been the focus of understanding the role of inherited disease susceptibility for some time, epigenetic can be modified by environmental factors, in particular nutrition. Thus research into the role of epigenetics in disease has substantial potential for explaining the impact of the environmental factors such as diet on disease risk. Since epigenetic processes can be modified by nutrition, it may be possible to modify inappropriate epigenetic marks by nutritional interventions to reduce disease risk. This book will explore current understanding of the interaction between nutrition, epigenetics and disease risk, will place this knowledge in the context of global health and discuss the ethical implications of this research. INTRACRANIAL PRESSURE AND ITS EFFECT ON VISION IN SPACE AND ON EARTH
:: Bestseller INTRAVITREAL INJECTIONS
A Handbook for Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioners and Trainee Ophthalmologists by Salman Waqar, Jonathan C Park (South West Peninsula Deanery, UK) & Michael D Cole (Torbay General Hospital, Torbay, UK) Intravitreal injections (injections into the eye) are a new form of treatment for various conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and vascular eye problems. The use of these injections has become so widespread that most departments around the world (and particularly in the U.K) do not have enough doctors to meet the service provision demands of an ever increasing number of patients. Many departments have trialed training ophthalmic nurse practitioners as a solution and the number of such specifically trained nurses is set to rise exponentially in the future. This book is meant to be an easy to carry A5 handbook detailing all that an ophthalmic nurse practitioner needs to know about performing the procedure Readership: Ophthalmic trainees (residents and registrars) and nurses training as ophthalmic nurse practitioners. 84pp Mar 2014 978-981-4571-45-6(pbk) US$25 £21 978-981-4571-46-3(ebook) US$38 £31

by Tien Yin Wong (National University of Singapore & University of Melbourne, Australia) Review of the First Edition: “... it is ideally suited for any candidate taking basic qualifying tests in ophthalmology anywhere in the English speaking world ... It is quite a remarkable and comprehensive fund of information and must surely contain every question ever put by any examiner in an oral/ viva examination and also covers all the published syllabuses both for basic sciences and clinical components of our examinations ... Trainees, therefore, might consider the use of this book as a reasonable guarantee for success in the examinations mentioned provided preliminary reading has been completed. “REACH is a remarkable accomplishment. REACH has fulfilled a goal of providing an approach to the provision of quality, comprehensive child mental health care in community settings that many have talked about but few have been able to achieve. REACH represents a model that goes beyond Singapore and should influence programme development for child mental health globally. This book provides the rationale and guide for implementation in a very accessible and forthright manner that will be useful to a wide audience.
