Scimparello N°11 - Winter 2023

MILLE BOLLE BLU

BY ENRICO FRAGALE ESPOSITO

In our present, dominated by the frenzy of digital connections and the relentless pace of modern life, the concept of ‘Remote Zone’ proves more valuable than ever. When every corner of the globe seems to be just a click away, the idea of distant galaxies, wastelands and places of disconnection takes on an extraordinary charm that allows us to escape from the overwhelming reality around us.

Our society is in constant motion, always on the lookout for new opportunities. It seems that in the midst of this relentless pursuit of progress, we have often lost the ability to carve out a moment of peace and retreat. Sometimes I feel as if we are trapped in an invisible net, constantly available to anyone who wishes to communicate with us. But where can we find our personal sanctuary, our au- thentic remote zone?

Everyone needs their own hidden sanctuary, a place where they can turn off the noise of the outside world and reconnect with themselves. For some it might be a remote village in the mountains, for others an unspoilt beach... and I, as a beach lover, can assure you that I have tried to find one, but to no avail: in the maelstrom of geolocalizations, even the wildest ones of my childhood have become tourist attractions. But in the end I realised that a perhaps unexpected situation turns out to be my daily remote zone... it is there, under my nose, or rather to be precise above it: the shower! Yes, that daily isolation box allows my thoughts to float free with the steam (I admit to making it hot even in summer). It is inside the bathroom, under the jet of water, between avocado shampoo and ginger bath foam, and some impromptu karaoke, that I take the time to reflect, plan and dream, away from digital notifications and impending demands.

In children’s fashion, as in any industry, it is crucial to find moments of detachment to allow creativity to blossom. When you have the luxury of disconnecting from the world, then the most brilliant ideas are born.
And so, dear friends of Scimparello, I leave you with a suggestion born right in the shower: think about where your secret hideout lurks. In this whirlwind of data and connections, look for that place where you can unplug virtually. Sometimes you don’t need an expensive ticket to distant destinations, just a few steps to do in your slippers.
