PRESS RELEASE Tuesday 4 September 2012 For immediate release It has recently been brought to our attention that a parliamentary campaign has been launched under the name of ‘Safety Net’, calling for a block on pornography by Internet Service Providers in order to protect children and young people online. This campaign is being run by Safermedia and Power Christian Media and we would like to make clear that it has no association with, nor represents the views of the charity Safety Net - Keeping Children, Young People and Families Safe, based in Brighton and Hove. We are however supportive of actions taken to safeguard children and young people online, and are fully aware that this is an area of increasing concern for parents and represents a complex mixture of risk and opportunity for children and young people. We are currently working in partnership with community and voluntary groups in Brighton and Hove to increase e-safety awareness through the development of training, policies and skills development. Safety Net is a registered charity based in Brighton and Hove whose aim is to work with communities to keep children and young people safe. We provide training, information and interventions around a range of safeguarding issues, including; child protection, bullying, home safety and family support. For further information please visit our web site at www.safetynet.org.uk. -- ENDS –
