Prescription contact lenses – Serving the purpose like conventional glasses with many more advantages Contact lenses are medical devices and are used for vision correction. They are placed over the cornea of the eyes. In functionality, they serve the same purpose as the conventional glasses do. But contact lenses have many advantages over the eye glasses. They are lightweight and are invisible. One of the major uses of contact lenses is to correct visual defects such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia and astigmatism. Earlier the lenses were made of glass but with technological advancements, they are now made up of softer and comfortable materials. Contact lenses are now not only used for vision correction but also to achieve a different look for your eyes. Nowadays, there are different types of contact lenses available in market. Apart from corrective contact lenses, they come in various varieties with different colors and designs options to give a special effect to the wearer’s eyes. The two main types of contact lenses based on the material are listed below: Hard contact lenses They are healthier contact lenses for your eyes and are being used since 1970. Hard contact lenses are made from plastic or silicone or fluoropolymers. The most common example of this type is rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses. They hold their shape and fit comfortably over the eyes. They allow the oxygen to pass through the lens to the cornea easily. They are the best choice for people having astigmatism or suffering from certain allergies or tend to from protein deposits on their contact lenses. Soft contact lenses Most of the contact lenses wearers use this type of lenses. They feel more relaxed as they stay better in place and are also easier to adjust than the hard contact lenses. They are made from flexible plastic allowing oxygen to pass through them easily. The presence of oxygen increases the comfort and also maintains the eye health. They are used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. Advantages of using contact lenses: Contact lenses are quite comfortable to wear as they do not pinch your nose, or rub or press against your ears and temple, unlike glasses, which, in addition, slide down your nose when you perspire.
