he Board of Directors of SC Ministry Foundation approved a new Strategic Direction for SC Ministry Foundation at their December, 2013 meeting. The Strategic Direction for fiscal years 2014-2016 is the result of a year-long process of research, discussion and development conducted by board and committee members to guide the future focus of the grant-making, education and advocacy efforts of the Foundation. SC Ministry Foundation hosted several events in February to share the new Strategic Direction and provide highlights of the Foundation’s accomplishments over the last five years. The first two events were hosted specifically for members of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati congregation to share information and provide opportunity for questions and dialogue. Sisters had the opportunity to attend in person or participate via an online conference.

Three additional in-person and online events were open to Sisters as well as the Foundation’s grantees and community partners. SC Ministry Foundation staff was grateful for the overall attendance of more than 200 people – with more than 60 attending via online conference from other locations across the country such as California, Colorado, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, New York, Texas, Washington, DC and as far away as Guatemala. he Strategic Direction for SC Ministry Foundation reflects its mission, vision and guiding principles, which did not change through this strategic planning process.
The diagram shown represents the Foundation’s five focus areas through FY 2016. The inner circle of the diagram identifies the vehicles through which the Foundation will move forward with the Strategic Direction: Capacity Building, Game-changing Grants, Education, Accountability, Advocacy, Communication, and Gospel Values.
Nurturing Active Engagement of the Members of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati Through priority funding to nonprofit organizations with active Sisters of Charity involvement, and the creation of a new, flexible funding channel for Sisters; through strengthened communication with Sisters and collaboration with SC congregational offices.
Continued Comprehensive Focus on Price Hill Revitalization With patient funding and through leadership, influence, and active involvement, the Foundation partners with Price Hill Catholic schools, strengthens early childhood education, and gives priority to comprehensive community development.
Focused Leadership and Influence Through collaborative initiatives that leverage impact and opportunities for learning, leadership development and capacity building; through funding and advocacy to support the issues addressed in the Sisters of Charity public statements related to Immigration, Earth and Abolishing the Death Penalty.
Stewardship of SC Ministry Foundation in Perpetuity Through governance of the grant-making process and maintaining the board and management responsibilities to uphold the investment and spending policy; through communication of limitations related to all grant-making channels and maintaining the expectation that all grantees and potential grantees share our stewardship responsibility.

News Briefs n The Foundation is pleased to welcome our new board members S. Carol Leveque, SC and Denise Kuprionis. Sister Carol has ministered as a Sister of Charity for 53 years, serving as an educator, pastoral associate and pastoral administrator in the Archdioceses of Cincinnati and Indianapolis and the Diocese of Covington. In addition to serving on the S. Carol Foundation’s board, Sister Carol is also a Leveque, SC member of the strategic planning and program committees. Denise is president and founder of The Governance Solutions Group, a board advisory practice that assists directors increase board effectiveness. Denise brings to the Foundation more than 25 years of experience with governance issues in the public, private and nonprofit Denise Kuprionis sectors. In addition to serving on the Foundation’s board, Denise serves as co-chair of the governance committee and is a member of the grant review committee. n Welcome our new committee members! New members to program committee include Beth Robinson, president and CEO of Uptown Consortium, Inc., and S. Louise Lears, SC, Sisters of Charity leadership council member. The grant review committee welcomes S. Mary Marcel DeJonckheere, SC, who ministered for more than 30 years as an elementary school teacher. n The Foundation is pleased to announce that Mike McGraw is serving as our new board chair. Mike has served on the Foundation’s board since 2007 and is president and CEO of R.G. McGraw Insurance. n Former board chair, Jerry Judd, was recognized by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati with the Elizabeth Ann Seton Award in January. The award recognizes individuals outside the congregation for their contributions and service to the mission of the Sisters of Charity. Jerry is pictured below (center) with S. News Briefs n SC Ministry Foundation was recognized by ProKids as the “2013 Community Builder of the Year.” ProKids provides advocacy for more than 2,500 children in the child protection system in Hamilton County, Ohio. “SC Ministry Foundation has thoughtfully and holistically supported ProKids’ mission to mobilize our S. n We Shall Not Be Moved: The Catholic Sisters of New Orleans was ProKids’ Executive Director. recognized internationally for excellence in the film industry with the 2013 Gold Aurora Award. The film was broadcast by Catholic TV network during National Catholic Sisters Week in March. SC Ministry Foundation organized the fundraising effort to produce the documentary, which included other Catholic foundations and congregations of women religious. n SC Ministry Foundation was recognized by Working in Neighborhoods as one of 35 key partners at the organization’s 35th anniversary celebration. “Thirty-five years ago S. Judy Martinez and S. Barb Busch acted on the signs of the time by engaging the South Cumminsville people to not be silent and to speak, to not be invisisble, but be visible.
