Pre-university, Pre-university education is structured in 5 cycles:
1.
Preschool Education (or Kindergarten) - takes place over three years, being made up of three groups: Small Group, Middle Group and Large Group.
2. Primary education (Primary School) - grades 0 (preparatory)-IV
3. Secondary education (Gymnasium) - grades V-VIII
4.1 High school education (Lyceum) - four or five classes (classes IX-XII / XIII)
4.2 Vocational education, which may continue or replace High School in preparing students for careers that are based on manual or practical activities.
5. Post-secondary education can last between 2 and 5 years.
Primary school starts from the preparatory class (children are generally enrolled at the age of 6, and then grades I-IV, being known as "primary education", while from the age of eleven until the age of fourteen is known as "secondary education".
Gymnasium lasts 4 years. Courses are s reconfigured at the end of fourth grade based on school performance. Many schools have special classes (such as intensive English classes or Computer Science classes, offering one or more courses in these subjects). Selection for classes is based on local tests. The assessment of student performance is also different between primary and secondary. Starting with he 5th grade, students have a different teacher for each ubject. In addition, each class has a designated teacher to be he class instructor (conductor).
The national colleges - are the most prestigious high schools in Romania
The national military colleges - are pre-university military institutions of the Romanian Army.
Economic College or Technical College - is a high school with very good results and a school program based on technical or service education.
Theoretical High School - a standard high school that offers programs in the theoretical branch (usually real - mathematics-informatics and natural sciences, and human - philology and social sciences). It is, as a rule, an average high school type.
Technological high school - a high school, which usually offers school programs in the technical field or education services; it can also have a theoretical branch.
