FROM THE H.N.I.C When I think of the number 5 I can’t help but to hear that Sesame Street number 5 song in my head “give em 5ive gimme 5ive “!! SMFH at myself. SCORCH celebrates 5ive years already and this I must say is an emotional accomplishment for me. Most of you won’t remember my first ever attempt at publishing a publication. It was wayyy back in 2004, when a magazine called SOLE (Source Of Local Entertainment) hit the scene. It sold a few for $15 and even though we shot a very kool cover with Bunji, the magazine did terribly, I hated it. Yeah SMFH again at myself. However, SOLE gave me the knowledge and market research to make SCORCH a success. R.I.P SOLE magazine. Advance to 2007, on a flight back to Trinidad, I found myself in the middle of a conversation with a close friend when SOLE and its failure came up. That conversation sparked an idea to explore an avenue to express my new concept for another magazine. It ignited a flame of desire that grew bright and that fire has not stopped burning since. Thank you Jeunanne Alkins. You have been my creative incubator and council for these past years. 5IVE years and still hot. I would like to thank the guys who made it possible from the beginning, in particular Sophie Wight, Wesley Welch, Graciela Garcia, Roelle Downer, Russel Patterson, Keisha Als, Brent Mollineau and Michelle Hart for seeing my vision and creating a brand that’s in its own league. A special thanks to all our 7+ ladies. Without your co-operation and beauty we could not be what I consider 6

the true representation of being a Trini. SCORCH was created to be a voice for our young, trend-setting and developing society. We’re unapologetic in our opinions and we say it as we see it. It’s a vehicle for advertisers tapping into a precise demographic in the society. A marriage I believe we have successfully achieved. We thank all of you who have contributed in some way from writers to photographers and of course, all our advertisers who took the chance and invested into the brand.

In our 5IVE year existence, we have seen and faced many challenges, made a number of mistakes, pissed off a lot of you and may continue to. But as a true child of the 80’s, I watched Captain Kirk boldly steer his spaceship into uncharted territories deep in space, unaware of what dangers awaited him. SCORCH is my spaceship and we are light years ahead of the rest. So special thanks to my team. I do appreciate every one of you guys and your commitment to our success. Keep it SCORCHing hot!!! We now present 5IVE, our special 5 cover issue. We brought back 5 of our favorite and most popular beauties to create a collectors item we know you will enjoy. Special thanks to April Badhur, Jessica McBurns, Terri-Leigh Bovell and Gabrielle Walcott and to you reading this. Have a happy and prosperous 2013. See you on the road !!! Editor’s Note

5IVE years and we still at it. Well, not actually ‘we’ because I’ve only been here for a year but you know what I mean. The meaning, image and portfolio of the brand SCORCH has evolved so drastically in only 5 years. I remember when I desperately wanted to write for Scorch and never got through. Everything in its time because look at me now :) Some of you may have opinions on the value of our content, the integrity of our 7+ models or our work ethic and environment. All I have to say is to please direct your negative energy elsewhere because we’ve reached where we are with the support, well wishes and positive vibes of our fans...not you.

A special thank you to my team, my family who hardly sees me, my boyfriend who is always willing to help and Jenelle for not only accomodating me but coming through and doing a fantastic job on Nicola. On behalf of myself and the entire SCORCH team, have a prosperous New Year and we readyyyyy for Admiral!

If you’ve ever been into our office you would see that we don’t operate like any other office. We are a constant hub of activity with our magazine production, model shoots, ticket sales, event planning or just random office limes. All of this happens with a measly in-house staff of only 6 people so to all of you that have contributed directly or indirectly, we thank you and we look forward to another 5 prosperous years.

A public holiday was approaching and we had no plans. We asked around and no one seemed to have any either. We called up our Casanova homies to see if they had anything to do but they were pretty bored too...Hmmm...* light bulb idea* The idea for Noon to Moon was born. An all day party that stretched into the night. Needless to say a good time was had. Hey, there were dunk tanks and water slides that went into the pool, who wouldn’t have a good time.

2012 STYLE TRENDS

THAT NEED TO

RETIRE A BETTER BODY BUILDING

A new year is upon us, meaning it’s time to find NEW ways to be ironically fashionable and right the wrongs of the past year. Being the fashion-forward people that we are, we highlighted a few trends that need not make it to 2013. If you wear some of these things, your new year’s resolution should be to pile all of it up in a heap, create a bonfire and start afresh.

BEADS

Big ones, small ones, colorful ones, all black ones, rasta colour ones and the list goes on. The question is really, when did this 80’s rap-styletrend come back and when will it leave? We actually saw one person the other day who looked like he had Peewah on a string around his neck.

ROMPERS

With very few exceptions, highwaisted pants and short rompers should just be banned forever (unless you’re a newborn...then onesies are completely acceptable).

High Waist Pants Err...High-Waisted Shorts? Stop the madness!

TOMS

We get it, it’s for charity and we respect that. You see everytime you buy a pair, another pair is given to an impoverished child - FINE, but is it necessary to have 6 or more pairs? This style trend went from cool to drab very fast. We see some Toms that look like somebody mother’s couch or drapes was ripped up and made into a loafer.

HOLLISTER

Loud, generic, frumpy, overpriced clothing with no real sense of style or purpose. This brand was all over the place in 2012, from tshits to board shorts and we’ve had enough. Come January 1st please burn all your Hollister clothing. 16

www.thescorch.com

Everybody wants to look like the poster girl in the gym. Or the bikini babe with the perfect breasts that look up at you seductively and shout angrily, “can’t you see me standing here!?” But breast surgery, tummy tuck, lipo, etc. is serious sh*t and is not something to jump into without careful and prolonged thought.

after pics of his past patients. And it helps to know that we speak the same language.

The first thing to remember is that you have to be doing this for yourself. Not for a significant other. Or because your beau left you for a baddis with bess breasts. It has to make you happy in the end because there are periods of regret and pain that you have to go through before you can see the results you want. You need to be physically and emotionally prepared.

We’ve all seen Dr.90210 where your body becomes a whiteboard / blackboard, marking out a human jigsaw to move and shift and throw away the pieces you don’t want. It can be pretty scary going into the Operating Room a whole person and not knowing what you are gonna come back out looking like...Or if you’re gonna wake up. The anaesthesia takes you under in seconds and next thing you know is that someone is calling your name to wake up and you are wearing this compression body suit or bra thinking, how de a$$ they got this on? The sad part is that you will be wearing compression garments night and day at least for the first 6 weeks. Six weeks.

The whole process starts with a consult with your prospective Cosmetic Surgeon. If you are doing the medical tourism thing and going to Margarita or Vene to get it done, the facilitating company is your consult and you won’t meet your surgeon until you are ready to go under the knife. I like to know who my surgeon is, his qualifications, board certifications, before and

Every surgeon is different in his/her approach to post-op care. Some say massage the boobs into place, some say don’t. Some say don’t shower for the first 3-4 days, some say do it the day after surgery. Some say wear your drains for a few days, some take it out within 24 hours. So it is important that you talk to your surgeon and ask as many questions as possible.

Myths about Breast Implants #1: Breast Implants Rupture Easily This simply isn’t true. While there have been cases of breast implants rupturing, this is a highly rare occurrence. Breast implants are tested regularly in strenuous conditions to ensure they withstand daily activities. #2: You Can’t Breastfeed with Implants This myth is a case of sensationalism. It’s true that some women have experienced problems with breastfeeding due to their implants. However, this is the exception, not the rule. #3: Scars can be Hidden Today, there are many different types of incisions used for breast enlargement surgery. Many of these incisions are performed in areas of the body that allow potential scars to be hidden effectively.

She has recently gotten into fitness so when given the choice to choose the theme of her shoot she chose to showcase the training she does to take care of herself. Jamie was the cover girl for issue 5 which makes her extra special to be shot again for our 5 year anniversary issue. Fairly new to the game when we first shot her, she says that Scorch introduced her face to the entertainment industry and she got more jobs as a result of showing her sexy, scandalous and daring side.

ABOUT HER

You hang out regularly but you haven’t actually done the deed yet. Do you buy her a gift?... if so WHAT? How much money should you spend? What is appropriate and what isn’t? What if you spend some serious CREAM and by Carnival you’re still in the “friendzone”. Well we broke it down for you, check it out.

He’s always on the go. An opportunist with no time to waste. If he finds someone with a better link than her, he’s moving on.

ABOUT HER

Done run through all the town girls so now it’s time to hit up the village tings. He has some money but not plenty so he still has to fake it to make it.

She’s a lil’ more than average but a lil’ less than bess. She probably doesn’t know much about town life and bright lights.

Ok fellas, we’ve all been in this situation before, you have your cross-hairs set on this HOTT-A$$ girl and Christmas is looming.

He owns his own business (a band perhaps) so impressing her with a free costume is no skin off his back. He probably has a girl and a wife on the outside.

ABOUT HER Super bess. Groups of male friends would watch her and gape at her Benz and Beemer chassis and wonder who have it on lock.

She has the link he’s gonna need on a random basis. She most likely holds an administrative position. She’s a 5, a potential 6 if she learns how to put herself together better.

She’s a little older, mature, works for herself. She has everything so probably has a few designer handbags already. Won’t really be impressed by this purchase.

Things to keep in mind when buying a gift for a woman: If you buy a cellphone, she is going to call another man with it. If you buy a watch, she will know what time to go by the next man. And…well…if you buy drawers, the next man will probably take them off.

CONVERSATIONS WITH A

SPECIALIST

SCORCH sat down with A.S. Bryden & Sons Product Specialist, Nicola Thomson. At just 28, she has a myriad of top brands in her portfolio. She is the consummate professional and career-driven woman. She is also a mother and might we add, she is very easy on the eye. WOW EH, makes us wanna go to the offices of Brydens every day for a meeting.

What are the biggest challenges of your job? The biggest challenge for me is managing the budget spend per brand to ensure that the correct marketing tools are utilized to reach the target consumer . With the advent of social media, it is critical that we reach the target consumer through the best methods available to us and these unfortunately are quite costly. Brand building takes time, effort, dedication and a bit of creativity and I am determined to build these brands one month at a time, one consumer at a time.

April

Suraj

www.thescorch.com

April was a part of our Haven Swimwear issue and she stole the spotlight with her sultry look and cocacola shape. We’ve tried to book April for another issue of Scorch but funnily enough she was getting married the weekend we wanted to shoot her. Sorry guys! April’s barbie theme embodies the dream that any little girl had when she was young...to be cute, glamorous, girly with bright colours and lots of candy. April is a pretty face with a Masters and studying towards her ACCA.

What do you love most about being a Brand Manager? I love the opportunity to be creative and to see my ideas come to life in ways that benefit the brand in terms of sales growth month to month and year on year. What is the biggest misconception about being a mom and a professional? For me it is the notion that having a child limits a woman in terms of the scope of work she may get into and the levels of success that she can achieve. If anything, having a child(ren) should motivate you to reach higher heights. I started my Masters Degree when my son was 6 months old and though I was working full time and it was extremely difficult, with many sleepless nights, I am certainly alive today and my son will reap the rewards of my efforts one day. Everything I do, I do with him in mind and any route I take professionally, is to his advantage and requires sacrifice of self. I also want to be a great example to him, showing him

that no matter what cards you may have been dealt, not only can I be a successful professional dedicated to my brands, but also an equally dedicated mother. What brands can we expect to see during the Carnival season? During the Carnival season, you can expect to see executions for Belvedere Vodka (Ultra Premium Vodka), Arbor Mist (a very refreshing fruit infused wine), Glenmorangie (single malt whisky) and El Dorado Rum Cream Liqueur (absolutely

NICOLA

What are your products/lines? Red Bull, Arbor Mist Wines, Belvedere Vodka, El Dorado Rum Cream Liqueur, Glenmorangie, 10 Cane Rum, Drambuie, Jim Beam Bourbon, Beehive Brandy, Stone’s Ginger Wine, Bois Bande Rum,

delicious rum based cream liqueur from the house of El Dorado through Demerara Distillers) Speaking of Belvedere Vodka, how does the image your brand aims to portray fit into the image you personally portray? Belvedere Vodka is an ultra premium vodka, actually; the world’s first luxury vodka, hailing from Poland with ingredients that produce a perfect balance of purity and character. I think my personal image is very similar to the brand’s image but I think I’m most like Belvedere. Intense, with a touch of edginess and mystery and when I’m in a playful mood I’m most like the Belvedere Blackraspberry, sharp yet sweet. lol What advice would you give to young professionals who don’t think both (kids and successful professional) are possible? Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon!! At the end of the day, you can do absolutely anything you set your mind to. The only real obstacles to being or achieving anything are the ones you create for yourself. With the right support system, a child should never be an excuse for failure or mediocrity; a child should propel you to greatness

and as with everything important in life, we find a way to make it happen. How do you manage a personal and professional life? haha......honestly I don’t have much of a personal life. My time away from the office and the trade is typically spent with my beautiful son and when he’s not with me, I try to get some sleep, get to the beach, hit a club now and then if I feel the vibe (and have the energy) and really just relax. Where are your brands available for purchase and maybe even a sample? Besides the large supermarket chains and wholesalers, The Naughty Grape sells T&T’s largest selection of fine spirits inclusive of the Moet-Hennessy range (inclusive of Belvedere, Glenmorangie and 10 Cane) alongside the entire Johnnie Walker range, and ultra premium rums. It also boasts an extensive range of exquisite wines as well as a diversity of liqueurs, cocktail mixers, and more. The dates, times and brands being sampled are communicated through The Brydens Trinidad Wine Club as well as the Naughty Grape Facebook page.

DIRECTIONS Pour condensed milk in a medium saucepan and cook over low heat for about 45 minutes stirring frequently. Be careful not to burn as it sticks to the bottom of the pan. Set aside. Pulse crushed crackers then add melted butter in a food processor until they stick together and crackers get pulverized. Pour the graham cracker mixture into a 9-inch spring form pan and press with hands to evenly distribute on the bottom of the pan. Chill to set for about 15 minutes in the refrigerator. Pour the dulce de leche (condensed milk) over the graham cracker base. Spread evenly. Peel and slice bananas and arrange over the top to cover the entire surface. Whip the cream until firm and spread over the top. Sprinkle top with cinnamon and grated chocolate. Serve.

SCORCH DRINKS

Ah the holidays, when family you doh see ever, comes to clean you out of food and grog. When uncles get drunk and reveal ugly family truths and aunties gather to gossip over food. Sometimes it’s a lot to put up with, as a way of dealing with it all here’s Scorch’s very own Sorrel recipe.

Scorch's Truth Serum SORREL Ingredients (makes 2 Litres) • 1lb of Sorrel (doh worry bout dat, stop on the highway, get a lb of sorrel) • 2 Liters of Water • Ginger Cloves/Cinnamon/Orange Peel to taste • Sugar to taste (we suggest sweeter) • 1 flask of The Truth (Forres Park Puncheon) - It wouldn’t be a Scorch recipe unless we had liquor now would it? DIRECTIONS Add the Sorrel, grated ginger and Water together in a big pot, bring to a boil. Add any of the cloves/ cinnamon/orange peel to your liking during this stage. Let the mix boil for at least 15 minutes.

The origin of Sorrel is a bit sketchy, but it most probably came from Jamaica where it is popularly grown. It comes in three varieties, pink the most popular, the dark red variety which is also popular and pale yellow (almost white).

Cover and let cool. Strain the juice into a jug and add sugar to taste. Chill the mixture and add the flash of Puncheon just before serving. Let the truth come out!

Please be responsible and designate before you pump this Christmas.

SCORCH CARNIVAL 2013

BUDGET As Trinibagonians we have a special approach to the Christmas/ Carnival season. With fetes starting in earnest on boxing day most years your bank account is usually torn between buying gifts, toys, cards, other ish for friends/ family and fetin’, carnival costume, weight loss tablets and girdle etc. We aren’t all blessed with riches so we needed to devise a plan of action before hand. We at SCORCH love you guys a lot and don’t want you’ll to starve in February and March so we started said plan for you.

UTILIZE YOUR CONTACTS AND SOCIAL CIRCLE

Now any normal plan would have involved months of saving, preparation and discipline. But chances are if you had a year like ours you were pumpin’ hard since Ash Wednesday like is nobody business. When everybody else was ‘taking it easy’ after carnival you just pressed on. Fast forward to Dec 2012 you’re studying ‘how I going to do dis boy?” The first thing you have to concede is all the discipline you didn’t have during the year will be needed to stick to the following guidelines and get you through to your goal of carnival bliss and financial stability.

STRATEGIZE YOUR FETIN’

Due to fiscal constraints you cannot party EVERY damn weekend from January 1 so pick your spots carefully. Don’t patronize a random dance in January and miss out on like say...um...I don’t know...SCORCH Saturday, because you ran out of “cream”. Also, limit the amount of high end all-inclusives you go to because one of those is worth 4-5 decent cooler fetes. So get a Carnival calendar SCORCH SA GOOD LU TURDAY, 20 and plot your course and stick to it. 13 CK GET TICKETS

PRIORITIZE YOUR ‘BIDNESS’

FOR DON’T BUY RUM E AND THE COOLER FETYOUR Y BU TO ET FORG S TROJAN CONDOM

TING

Before you decide on your final fete budget make sure you account for Food, Shelter, Security (contraception cost?), child support, loan payments, Costume payment etc. Don’t spend money you don’t have or may have air marked for more pressing matters.

If you have a family member, a boss, a friend, an outside fling you was with over the Christmas holiday that can hook you up with “comps” for any of the fetes you plan to attend, it will go a long ways to helping you achieve your goal, especially for the more expensive fetes. Every year many comps go to waste and just stay in someone’s office draw collecting dust.

PRIORITIZE YOUR ‘BIDNESS’

“EH MEH BOY? HOW YOU ONLY DIPPING IN MEH JOHNNIE SO?”

You decide you want to go Tribe ICE, a ticket is about $250, plus drinks: $550. You team up with some friends to pack a cooler to go the dance. Without fail, along comes that guy/girl who will come and dig up in your cooler because they might know someone in the crew. They will not only take one drink and give thanks, but will come back for 2, 3 and 4 more and sometimes even offer drinks to other people. Individuals such are these are to always be avoided, even more so for someone on a tight budget.

So the foundation is laid for you. Once you follow these simple guidelines, you should be well on your way to having a great carnival and not “bussin’ your pocket” in the process. If all else fails and you run out of money you will have to use what your mama gave you to get by I guess. This may be easier for some to do than others though. Either way, have a great season and a afe Carnival. Happy Fetin’!

FETE PRICES Here are a couple fete prices we were able to confirm thus far for Carnival 2013. TRIBE Ice - $250 C’est La Vie All Incl. - $750

Shades Breakfast Party. - $600 Beach House All Incl. - $1000

GASBRAIN

2012 AUTO WRAP UP

Porsche Cayenne

We took a look back at the top cars that changed the face of the game for 2012. SCORCH is not only about what’s hott but what’s going to be hott to come. We’ve all seen these cars on the streets and took a small gape when they drove past but we promise you’ll be seeing more of them in 2013...or maybe even buy one of your one.

MINI COOPER

The Porsche Cayenne is one of the most expensive SUV’s in Trinidad. It made the Porsche not just a high-end luxury, out of reach sports car. It’s now a regular sight on the roads with businessmen and housewives behind the wheel. She’s high maintenance, beautiful and smooth. Everything about her exudes class, so much so that if your girlfriend finds out you cheated with her…she’ll let that one slide.

The four doors on the Mini make it more practical than the traditional Mini Cooper. This sporty, larger Mini is more comfortable for small families or people who need to take their friends to the beach every once in a while. She’s a petite, upper class girl comfortable with the sexual way people view her. She’s normally a red girl who’s down for a quick ride.

FORD RANGER Curvier and sexier, the Ford Ranger 2013 changed the shape of the game. With typical 4x4’s having a more muscular shape, the Ranger became the new must-have truck. Ladies who were looking at the Sportero now directed their desire to the Ranger. The only downfall is a Heavy T license is needed. She’s a mature, fit and solid woman…with nice eyes. She exudes a sex appeal you just can’t describe. Built and muscular isn’t normally your type but just this once…you find yourself uncontrollably attracted to her. 40 www.thescorch.com

AUDI A4 The Audi was usually the vehicle of choice for an older career driven man but now, any and everyone is driving one or wish they had one. The sleek, sexy redesign that came out in 2011 diversified the market appeal and the demand hasn’t wavered yet. She’s been around the block but in the past 2 years, she’s been bringing something different to the table. She has a universal appeal with all age groups and genders.

SCORCH TECH 2012

5. SAMSUNG S3

WRAP UP

The only true competitor to the Iphone, Samsung sold over 50 million phones in the first 3 months of release. The number sounds impressive but since Apple has only published the sales of the IPhone 5 in the first 3 days, we can’t fairly compare. With the large screen and easy to operate interface, we don’t expect Samsung to dip in popularity for 2013.

1. MacBook Air

The MacBook Air is as hot as some of the 7+ models that grace our pages. In 2012 Apple released a new one which was was beginning to eat into MacBook Pro sales. It was upgraded with an Intel processor and comes with 4 GB of ram standard. It also has a 720p FaceTime Camera so you can see your foreign love interest that more clearer. The other good news - it’s a $100 USD cheaper than the first one.

SCORCH APP 2012

2. GoPro Hero 2 When it comes to strapping a camera on your roll on/roll off Lancer and drifting around a canefield, the only HD option is a GoPro. It’s small and very durable but more importantly it’s affordable, so if it flies off it won’t be a worry (not that its hard case will allow that). Recently the smaller GoPro3 came out WIFI ready and with a remote.

3. KINDLE FIRE You love to read books? You don’t like lugging books with you on vacation? You can’t afford an IPad? The Kindle came on the market for those people...but excluded the rest of people who well, like to do stuff other than read. Then came the Kindle Fire that fixed this issue by offering a Wifi option to browse the web. Take note though, it may be considerably cheaper but unless you have a credit card with a US billing address, you’re screwed with buying apps.

4. iPhone 4S One word: Siri. The cheeky yet helpful personal assistant on the IPhone changed the face of the phone game for 2012. Truth be told, we haven’t seen anyone use Siri for anything useful but we do know she hates cursing and tells a mean bedtime story. Siri hardly works with a Trinbagonian accent but we have to admit, the IPhone 4s with its smooth interface, acceptable battery life, Facetime and IMessage certainly does have a cool factor to it. 46 www.thescorch.com

WRAP UP

1. Temple Run - Platforms: Android, iOS Have some spare time during the day? Then download this app. It came out for iOS devices initially and was downloaded over 40 million times so naturally it headed over to Android devices. Same gameplay, same powerups…same fun. 2. Google Drive - Platform: Android Of late, Google and Apple don’t seem to play well together. Formerly known as Google docs, Drive is a collaboration tool and a storage app that does everything in real-time. The iOS version is basically garbage while the Android version lets you edit and view documents directly from your phone or tablet. 4. Facebook Camera - Platform: iOS When you think Facebook, you naturally think pictures, so it’s only natural for them to make an app that does just that. While not revolutionary, it does the basics well and it is definitely worth a download. You can do some quick editing and tag friends by simply tapping the image. 4. GoPro - Platforms: Android, iOS One of the coolest products just got cooler. This app allows you to control your camera wirelessly from your smartphone. The app lets you see what the camera sees, change settings and observe battery life. 5. INSTAGRAM 3.0 - Platforms: Android, iOS The app that became everyone’s favorite photo sharing service. It was purchased by Facebook for way too much money. They updated the terms & conditions that made people feel they were going to sell people’s photo but they quickly explained this wasn’t their intention. Anywhoo, look us up ScorchMag.

SCORCH GUIDE TO FETEING WITH YOUr

GIRLFRIEND

Carnival 2013 is fast approaching, and that means you will probably be hitting one or two all-inclusives with your significant other - trouble. A night out feting with your boys requires no technique. A no-hold barred descent into debauchery could be had with two straight shots of Puncheon. Feteing with your lady this carnival demands some forethought, class and tact - to put it another way you have to be a gentleman.

Trippy Topics Your baby-mama, her ex-boyfriend, your porn stash… every couple has that one issue that causes a fight every time it is brought up. Too often after we have had too much to drink these issues are uttered from our inebriated tongues. Odds are, you will say something you will regret, or don’t mean. Keep the convo argument-free when you drink and your relationship will remain intact.

Drink....FIGHT Nothing worse than a drunk couple fighting at a fete. Now every couple has a fight once in a while but if everytime you get boozed up it descends into a shouting match then consider drinking less or maybe not drinking altogether.

Know your LIMIT (errr, and hers too) To start with, you are not with your male counterparts, no need to guzzle your drink and get eff’d up. Your friends might laugh at your slurred speech and rum-enduced outbursts but your girl would definitely not find that funny. Assuming you care about the woman you are with, you should act like it. The best thing is to know your limit and maintain some level of sobriety. If you see she is nearing her limit, get her some water and lead by example. No one likes to stop on the highway on the way home for your girl to puke out all the food she ate in the fete while you hold her hair.

Drunken Confessions After getting sh*tfaced, the last thing you should do is offer up a wild confession. The time for discussions is not at a fete after three or four rounds of shots. A woman’s emotions tend to surface after she has had a few and it is the quickest way to get a drink thrown in your face. Whether you want to tell her about the threesome you had recently or that you just love her, it’s best to tell her when you are sober and you can remember what you’ve just said. Save the drunken confessions for your boys, that’s what they are there for. 48 www.thescorch.com

Inevitably, arguing in a fete ruins the party for you and everyone else around you - and needless to say you are the topic of conversation by everyone else the next day. Don’t be that couple, we beg of you.

Rum + Rompin’ Shop Does your inner freak come out after a few drinks?? If you have a conservative girlfriend, and getting what you want out of her requires a little coercing, it’s best to do it on a sober head. Because believe us, morning will come. Nothings worse than waking up to an argument because you wanted to try something you saw in a porn film after a few drinks, and your hand/eye coordination was not at its best. If it’s still early in your relationship, it’s best to play it safe than to try to take advantage of a drunk situation.

Conclusion Enjoy drinking with your significant other but sip slower than usual. Fellas take the opportunity to show her that you respect her to gain her trust. 5th Anniversary Issue 49

Gabrielle

Walcott

Former Miss Universe for Trinidad & Tobago contestant Gabrielle Walcott hasn’t had an easy road when dealing with living in the public eye...I mean, her cover for Scorch wasn’t even an official shoot. She looked so amazing on the road in 2009 that our photographer had to capture the moment. When we ventured to Dream Lounge in San Fernando we faced the cliche torrential rains that always seem to happen when someone in the movies is trying to get something done. Nonetheless, Gabby had her wardbrobe, hair and makeup done, along with photos to show what exactly she wanted of her look, What a production it was! She initially wanted a play on the Fifty Shades of Gabby but unfortunately the tie and handcuffs didn’t quite work seamlessly into the shoot. We weren’t sure why she asked for a strict closed set shoot but my my my, as soon as we arrived...it was quite obvious... Take a look.

SCORCH 2012

YEAR IN

REVIEW

2012, what a year, honestly we can’t believe it’s over. From the bacchanal that was Section 34 to Wayne Kublalsingh almost starving himself to death. We recount the year both locally and abroad. Victoria Soto President Obama, mentioning Soto by name and she was given a police honor guard -- officers in full dress and white gloves, marching in precise formation. The death toll would have been higher if not for Soto’s quick thinking as she hid her students in the classroom bathroom, but she was ultimately shot and killed.

Baby Biter Jermour Noel, 24, the child’s father, bit off chunks of flesh from her face and leg when he couldn’t find food in the family’s home.

We win Gold with Keshorn Walcott.

Kublalsingh strikes then eats a mango. Dr. Wayne Kublalsingh went on a 21 day hunger strike that had all of us choosing sides. Some people visited and sang songs for him and some of us watched on the sidelines wondering how much nutrition he was really getting in St.Clair. All in all, he seems to feel he achieved his goal by ensuring there was a review committee for the Point Fortin highway reroute.

The 2012 London Olympics brought the type of National Pride we only experience when something huge brings us together. All the focus was initially on track & field, swimming and cycling. Little did anyone know that Javelin would have been the event that put Trinidad & Tobago on the map. Not long after did Keshorn Walcott become a household name and his shy demeanor made him an instant hero.

On the morning of Friday 14th December a 20 year old young man entered into a Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown Connecticut and killed 27 people..majority being kids from ages 5-7. He also killed his mother before going to the school. He ended this savage and disgusting event by turning the gun on himself. 56 www.thescorch.com

Olympic sailor Andrew Lewis sailed from Pigeon Point Tobago to Maracas Bay, Trinidad in just under 12 hours in a never done before Trinidad Wind Energy Challenge.

The Floods in Diego Martin & Maraval were said to be as a result of construction in the hills as well as nonperishable waste in the rivers. The same goes for the flooding in the downtown POS area anytime rain falls for more than 20 minutes. When will things change??

Section 34. Volney fired

Rapes on Chancellor Hill Lewis sails from Tobago to Trinidad

Flash flooding in Diego Martin and Maraval.

Hurrican Sandy wreaks havoc Hurricane Sandy devastated parts of the Caribbean, MidAtlantic and North Eastern states around the end of October. The devastation was widespread and reminded us of the chilling devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The damage estimated in the US alone is upwards of $63 billion.

Carnival time coming up so all the people who decided to start the workout early got a little scare. There were a number of attempted rapes reported by women who say that a car full of men slowed down next to them in an attempt to pull them in. Come January we know Chancellor will be packed but please exercise caution especially if you blasting a Machel mix on your headphones.

Was he a scape goat or deserving of being unceremoniously fired by Prime Minister Kamla during a speech for his role in pushing for the approval of Section 34? Section 34 allows a judge to dismiss a case against a person and find the person not guilty if ten years or more has elapsed since the commission of the offense and the trial had not begun. He told cabinet colleagues that Chief Justice Ivor Archie and the DPP were aware of his plan to pass Section 34.

GIVES

BACK

We’re all about who, where and what’s Hott but one thing we never lose sight of is helping those in need. For the second year running, we held the SCORCH Games, a charity event which was won by YUMA. They got $10,000 to donate to their charity. Also this year we, along with Wow Events, hosted a cruise on the Harbour Master, Golden, in aid of the victims of the Diego Martin floods. Not too long after, we entered into a Charity Scavenger Hunt and won. It pays to give back.

SCORCH + WoW hand over a cheque for $17,000 to the Deputy Mayor for victims of the flood that took place on Aug 11th.

Team YUMA celebrating after collecting a cheque for $10,000 which they will donate to a charity of their choice.

A SCORCH Team finally won something - a charity Scavenger Hunt for children. Ah yes, victory and giving back is so sweet.
