PROLOGOS

As the FURIES whisk into the heavens, daylight finds a street in Athens. Center, a building: a staircase snakes up from its front entrance to a second-floor balcony. Enormous images of ARES, god of war, and APHRODITE, goddess of love, frame the stage. KLEONIKE--tough, warm, motherly, committed--leads a small knot of exasperated WOMEN (XANTHE, MYRRHINE, and SAPPHO) toting signs,in what seems to be a hopeless, endless streetside demonstration.
