The instrumental parts and processed sounds* begin together and continue throughout the piece. The instrumentalists must coordinate their performance with the recorded sounds. To facilitate coordination, elapsed times are given in the instrumental parts (at intervals of 40 seconds). The parts also show the approximate locations of the peaks of the crescendos of the recorded sounds. There are 13 peaks, only three of which coincide with downbeats in the piano and percussion:
