Ignite Award with St Hilda’s and Scotch
About the Ignite Award In the spirit of fostering leadership skills and co-educational collaborative growth, the Year 4 and 5 students from Scotch College and St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls embark on an exciting journey. Through a variety of learning experiences such as a Pen Pal connection in Year 4 and the Ignite Award programme in Year 5, Scotch College and St Hilda’s have joined forces to promote a programme with a focus on personal character growth and the development of young minds. An innovative relationship Scotch College and St Hilda’s have developed a unique collaboration through the Ignite Award programme which aims to instil leadership qualities in young students, equipping them with the tools they need to become confident, empathetic, and effective leaders in the future. Students from Scotch College and St Hilda’s are encouraged to learn from one another’s diverse experiences and backgrounds. This unique set-up not only enhances their teamwork skills but also exposes them to new relationships. Together, they will experience different ways of thinking and problem-solving and will foster a bond forged on mutual respect, support, and care for one another as they journey through school.
Ignite Award. What is it? The Ignite Award is a WA based, selfdevelopment programme for children between the ages of 9 and 13. Throughout the year, students engage in a series of workshops, activities, and projects designed to nurture various aspects of self-growth and leadership. Students learn to celebrate their authenticity and showcase their leadership abilities while promoting teamwork and mutual understanding. The structured curriculum is designed to challenge students’ perspectives, encourage them to step out of their comfort zones, and empower them to take initiative across four areas: • • • •
Physical activity Hobby Volunteering Adventure
Community projects A highlight of the Ignite Award is the community-focused projects. These are developed and executed by the students with the aim of addressing real-world issues within their local communities. From organising events to initiating environmentally conscious campaigns, these projects allow students to apply their leadership skills in practical and impactful ways in the safe setting of their schools. This experience not only deepens their sense of social responsibility but also provides a platform for them to realise the positive change they can affect as young leaders.
