WHAT IS? NIBAS: National Indoor Bouldering Award Scheme The National Indoor Bouldering Award Scheme is a programme of structured progression which provides boulderers with a way to develop their skills, from absolute first timers (level 1) through to advanced climbing skills (level 5).
HOW IT WORKS LEVEL 1 •
The 5 main rules of safety.
•
How to start and choose a suitable problem for your ability.
•
Be able to climb the full traverse wall in control.
•
Climb all the pinks problems.
•
Understand and demonstrate basic body movements.
•
Know four different types of hold and the difference between hand and footholds.
LEVEL 2 •
Be able to conduct themselves in a correct manner.
•
Understand the variety of different hold types and demonstrate how to hold them correctly.
•
Know different types of body positions/movements and how to use them properly when prompted.
•
Be able to demonstrate good footwork on a range of different graded problems.
•
Comfortably be able to climb on different angled walls in a controlled manor. This includes:
- Confident trusting feet in slab climbs - Keeping close to the wall on vert climbs - Managing to keep feet engaged on steep problems.
LEVEL 3 •
Understand the importance of warmups/cool downs and conduct these unassisted.
•
Be able to route read and understand the importance of doing so. ie talk the instructor through the route before they climb it.
•
Should be choosing project problems.
•
Field trip to lab?.

Teach a technique?

Competing in a local competition (winter/Summer League)
•
Climbing independently
•
Pushing towards 2/3 training sessions a week?

Interspersing other training aids/pull ups, etc?
