37 NEW CAMPAIGNS. 279 NEW HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES. 9,500 VOLUNTEERS. 350 PRESCHOOL SCHOLARS. These may seem like numbers, but we urge you to look beyond the numbers to the faces behind them. To consider the “ripple effect” of what our work does. A high schooler is the first in his family to receive a high school diploma. He was on course to drop out but now, he is getting ready for college. Just think how that ripple effect comes into play. That child is changing not only his own odds, but that of his family, his future family, his neighborhood, his future workplace, his community, and his national economy. The 2013-2014 campaign year has been one full of wonder, pride and collaboration by so many dedicated people. With 37 new campaigns and over 350 United Way workplace campaigns across the Valley, companies are uniting for a better future for southern Nevada. These dedicated people share one thing in common; they have worked together to change the course of many lives. It is you who have caused ripples in the water. Every day we are reminded of the collective power we have, power generated by the joint efforts of so many talented people who give so much of themselves to create a better and brighter southern Nevada. With our sincerest thanks, we’d like to recognize each and every person who touches our organization. Whether it is by giving, volunteering an hour or a day, or by rallying others and advocating on behalf of our initiatives, it is your support that helps firmly build a stronger foundation for our community. This year, we have so many successes for which to be grateful. Through our combined time, talent and resources, we are shaping a preschooler’s education, so she faces better, more promising life outcomes. Without you, Holly would not have had the opportunity to start her two children off on the right foot. Both Gabriel and Lily are at Griffith United Methodist preschool thriving, thanks to our work in education. We are giving underinsured children a medical home, preventative care and immunizations. Leah would not have access to lifesaving asthma medication without having a lifeline to the Martinez Elementary Health Clinic, opened in the February of 2014. Fikreabe reminds us of how powerful knowledge is. He is learning how to save, this year saving $2,000 at the “Piggy Bank” and gaining financial literacy skills that will serve him an entire lifetime. Keep an eye on this young man, as he has his goals set high to be a surgeon one day. He is also teaching his parents about saving. Think of these three stories and the ripples that encircled these children as they get on their way with a healthier foundation and the ability to influence so many other lives around them.

This strong foundation of support, partnership and belief in a better tomorrow has enabled us to achieve farreaching goals in the areas of Education, Health and Financial Stability. The numbers of lives we have touched is staggering, but not only that, it is the fact that this influence has created a new path, a new future, a completely redirected route to success for so many people. We have seen perspectives change through transformative volunteer projects. To get out of our normal comfort zones and to work shoulder to shoulder with new people to read to children, beautify a neighborhood, or to assist someone through a complex tax preparation is life-changing, for the volunteer and for the community itself.

With a near army of active volunteers through AmeriCorps and our Volunteer Center, we recruit and deploy thousands of individuals and organizations to achieve tangible results and address unmet community needs through volunteerism and national service.

HELPING CHILDREN ACHIEVE THEIR POTENTIAL PROPELLING CHILDREN FORWARD WITH ACADEMIC CERTAINTY In our local community and in alignment with United Way’s national goals, United Way of Southern Nevada is committed to securing more academic opportunities for all children, engaging families in their children’s academic journey to ensure a lifetime of success, and increasing teachers’ skills and proficiencies for greater teacher-student engagement and learning. OUR MISSION To help all children enter school ready to learn, to move through school with confidence, be career ready at graduation, so that they happily and positively contribute to the local workforce. OUR VISION All children enter school at grade level or above, consistently close the achievement gap and demonstrate proficiency in reading, math and literacy by third grade.

IMPROVING THE HEALTH OF CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES PROTECTING CHILDREN’S HEALTH THROUGH PREVENTION AND SUPPORT Along with United Way’s national goal of increasing the number of youth and adults who are healthy, United Way of Southern Nevada is committed to ensuring that children in our community are healthy and have access to comprehensive health care. OUR MISSION To help all children have a medical home, and consistent, high quality preventative health care so that they may grow and thrive. OUR VISION Children will have access to health care to successfully start and stay in school, creating a healthy cycle of life.

DRIVING RESULTS THAT PROMISE HEALTHY OUTCOMES (2010-2014) •
More than 260,000 immunizations were given to children birth to age 10, preparing them for school, improving attendance and increasing the chances for school success.

More than 103,000 children, birth to age 10, received immunizations, protecting them from life-threatening diseases.
•
More than 21,000 children received preventative medical care from a family doctor, providing them continuity of care and a medical home.
•
More than 37,000 dental services were provided to families at no cost, contributing to overall health and wellness.

COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN CHAMPIONS United Way of Southern Nevada provides a unique opportunity for individuals, employees, organizations, and corporations to work in concert to build a healthy southern Nevada. Through the support of hundreds of corporations and thousands of employees, United Way’s campaign continues to grow and is making a measurable difference in our community.
PACESETTERS
Pacesetter companies step up and work towards the community campaign goal prior to the campaign season kickoff. The 2013-2014 Pacesetters helped set the pace of the campaign by raising more than $1 million of the 2013-2014 campaign goal.
