HERE ARE SOME FACTS ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON’S HOME, MT. VERNON The mansion was the home of Martha and George Washington.  The third floor in the mansion is only visited on the holidays.  In the whole house, there are 21 rooms.  The house is independent of the Government. VISITOR INFORMATION 

When visitors go to Mount Vernon they see the slave quarters; that is where the slaves slept, the kitchen, stables, and the green house.


During the Christmas holiday, visitors are treated to a 18th century tour of the mansion with Martha Washington (played by a character).


INTERESTING FACTS The plantation was 2,000-8,000 acres long.  George Washington lived in Mount Vernon for 40 years.  Since Mount Vernon opened to the public, 80 million people have toured the mansion.  Mount Vernon was named after a British Admiral, named Edward Vernon,  Mount Vernon was built in the 1700’s  Mr. Washington helped design his house. 
