The FDR Memorial Commission was formed in 1955. Lawrence Halprin’s design was chosen for creation in 1978. Leonard Baskin, engraver and sculptor, was also chosen . The stone carver was John Benson. The artists were Neil Estern, Robert Graham, Thomas Hardy, and George Segal.

South Dakota Granite for the memorial The statues are made of bronze
President Roosevelt helped our nation go through many hard times like WWII and the Great Depression. Roosevelt was honored with this memorial because of his bravery and for being a great president.
Roosevelt had a a Scottie dog named Fala and she is also a part of the memorial. FDR is featured in a wheelchair The statues are realistic.
