The FDR Memorial Commission was formed in 1955. Lawrence Halprin’s design was chosen for creation in 1978. Leonard Baskin, engraver and sculptor, was also chosen . The stone carver was John Benson. The artists were Neil Estern, Robert Graham, Thomas Hardy, and George Segal.

President Roosevelt helped our nation go through many hard times like WWII and the Great Depression. Roosevelt was honored with this memorial because of his bravery and for being a great president.


Roosevelt had a a Scottie dog named Fala and she is also a part of the memorial.  FDR is featured in a wheelchair  The statues are realistic. 
