George Washington was offered the land, but because of his work in the military he didn’t claim the land till he married Martha. In 1789 he was working on the house and when he became president this interrupted his work.

He added an addition to the house that cost about 2,000 dollars The house was open in 1858 for the world to see. Over 80 million people visit every year. That’s about 219,178 people visit everyday.


Estate ESTATE Information    

The ESTATE is 500 acres. George Washington and his family are buried there. It cost 200,000 dollars to build the ESTATE He purchased 200 acres of land. The ESTATE was originally called Hunting Creek. He expanded the planation from 2,000 to 8,000 acres.

house is built from wood. ď‚› The house was first built in 1743. It was finished in 1789; about the time George became president.

was grown at the farm ď‚› After a while Mr. Washington started growing wheat instead of tobacco.
