Both programmes challenge expectations and push boundaries in different and entertaining ways. I hope you enjoy this evening’s performance and will come back to see the other programme.

We are showing our work in two programmes on alternate nights. The Life and Times of Girl A brings Ben Duke’s delightful, downbeat wit, sharp, observational eye and grasp of emotional truth. Drift and NQR form a double bill. James Wilton is an emerging dance maker with a strong athletic and urgent physicality. His work is dynamic and musically charged, clearly illustrated by Drift . NQR , (Not Quite Right), is a threeway collaboration between Caroline Bowditch, Marc Brew and I. (Three co-directors is definitely not quite right!). We’re collaborating to ask questions; who can dance? How can we broaden expectations of what it can be? Caroline brings probing big-picture questions, propositions and infectious humour and optimism and Marc an insatiable appetite as a dance maker and tenacity to solve problems.

Marc has been working in the UK and internationally for the past 12 years as a dancer, choreographer and teacher; with Australian Ballet Company, State Theatre Ballet Company of South Africa, Infinity Dance Theatre (New York), Candoco Dance Company and SDT. Marc is currently SDT’s Associate Director Fellow and co-directed NQR.

Born in France, Audrey began dancing at eight years old. In 2006 she joined the Junior Ballet of Aquitaine, directed by Lucie Madona. Audrey then studied at London’s Laban Conservatoire for contemporary dance obtaining a BA Honours in 2010. She joined SDT as an apprentice dancer in July 2010.

Roderick Manson (19th February 2010) Response to The Life and Times of Girl A

And into the gap between what we see and what we hear the process of airport drops softly like a featherfall diluting us.

The visual distracts from meaning, sense, communication, from the essence of expression.

Words distract from colours, movements, gestures, from the purity of vision.

Airport

H ere is an example of a previous audience member’s response.

We’d love you to write us a poem or piece of prose inspired by your SDT experience.
