ADI TOCH
ADI TOCH 4 - 30 APRIL 2014 Adi Toch completed her BA with First Class Honours from Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem and followed with an MA at the Cass, London in 2009. Since then her work has been exhibited internationally and is included in the permanent collections of The Goldsmiths’ Company in London, Crafts Council London, Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge and The Jewish Museum New York. Toch won prestigious awards including Gold Award from The Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council 2013 and recently won the P&O Makower commission for National Museum of Wales. “I enjoy the process of creating vessels and containers as it allows me to work both with metal and space as materials, redefining borders between inside and outside. Through my work I explore the morphological qualities of vessels and the process of embedding functional objects with spirit. I try to create contemplative objects, communicating through their tactile essence.”

The series of patinated bowls explores an experimental technique of chemical colouring, developed in her work in recent years. The compound is applied on the metal and a rich mixture of variegated blues, greens, purples and reds is achieved. The result is a curious finish, which cannot be repeated.

The new Segmented Series explores evolution of vessels - after the initial shaping they are cut with one incision and twisted to create a new form. Tinkering with the familiar form of the vessel suggests the illusion of motion.

Tactile Series includes contemplative metal vessels designed to invite interaction. They contain substances, which can be seen, felt and heard, but never emptied or spilt. The content is shifted as the vessel is held, making gentle sound and creating mesmerising patterns.
