Janice Tchalenko Ceramics and Prints 7 September - 1 October 2011 “This exhibition contains two new ventures for me: porcelain and printmaking. After a lifetime using stoneware clay, moving to porcelain has given me a bright and very beautiful canvas to work on. Porcelain has a mind of its own and is not easy to throw. I’ve battled with its wayward qualities, to make forms that work. I’m interested in the differences between decorative patterns that fall happily into place, and the unpredictability of the painterly mark. I then submit the pots to the ravages, or the blessing of, fire. In my innocence I had thought that printmaking would be simple and it’s not, I’m getting a feel for line and the different way of layering colour to get the quality that I am searching for in a beautiful glaze.” Janice Tchalenko
