CLOSING DATE 28th FEBRUARY 2014 AT 5PM YOUNG SCOTTISH JAZZ MUSICIAN 2014 Please find below a copy of the application form for the Young Scottish Jazz Musician 2014 competition. The competition is organized, managed and produced by the Scottish Jazz Federation in partnership with Glasgow Jazz Festival. Our main sponsor is Creative Scotland and our final is recorded by BBC Radio Scotland’s Jazzhouse. We also acknowledge support from London Jazz Festivals and our many volunteers. The overall winner will hold the title for a year with the opportunity to perform and to represent the best of what Scotland has to offer both at home and further a field. The Final is to be hosted by Glasgow Jazz Festival at the Old Fruit market on Wednesday 25th June 2014. Interested musicians should be 23 or under on 1 April 2014 and have a residential address in Scotland. (Note: We will continue our category for the under 17s.) Former winners of the under 17 category can now apply for the main competition. To apply, read the rules below carefully, complete the attached application form and send to the address shown by Friday 28 th February at 5pm. IMPORTANT - Please include the following with your completed application; • • • • •

CD recording of 1 track, no more than 3 minutes long CD to be recorded solo or with accompaniment (i.e. playalong) Recording must include improvisation 25 words describing yourself DO NOT SAY YOUR NAME, AGE OR ANNOUNCE YOUR TRACK ON THE RECORDING (our first round is blind listening)

To work towards developing jazz in Scotland. Specifically, to benefit the public by increasing the availability of high quality jazz music and education in Scotland and the level of participation as players, learners and listeners.

To help represent the interests of Scottish jazz.

SJF aims to become the recognised

representative body for Scottish jazz artists, audience members and educators; able to lobby policy-makers, co-ordinate action and deliver definitive research.
