Crave Grounds opened in the Mercado on February 8, 2017. As more coffee retailers moved to a model of impersonal drive thru service, owner Jim Murphy wanted to create a comfortable neighborhood coffee shop.

After teaching at Dobson High School for 10 years, Jim left the teaching world to follow his passion for coffee. He partnered with Elevate Coffee Roasters and created a new espresso blend available only at Crave Grounds. After finding the perfect blend of coffee, Crave Grounds needed something to involve the entire family, and the concept of “made-to-order” mini donuts was deemed the winning combination. Crave Grounds was the first and continues to be the only made-to-order mini donut shop in the Valley.

From its inception, Crave Grounds has been actively involved in the community, often times donating donuts and coffee to surrounding schools and hospitals. Crave Grounds has also partnered with a variety of local businesses and events around the Valley, serving up hot and fresh mini donuts and cold brew coffee. Crave Grounds has a mobile events unit that has set up at Laguna Elementary, the Downtown Donut Fest, Phoenix Rising Soccer Club Stadium, Phoenix Fan Fusion, and many weddings and events.

Crave Grounds has found success keeping its original coffee blend, and hot and fresh mini donuts, and has recently added a number of different food options, including avocado toast and honey lavender toast. As more of Scottsdale Ranch makes it their regular neighborhood coffee shop, Crave Grounds has recently received approval to turn a landscape peninsula into an outdoor seating area to accommodate families, friends, and meetings safely outdoors.
