Luther Enloe, guitar

Possessing a distinctively resonant sound quality, lyrical phrasing, and technical finesse, classical guitarist Luther Enloe has received acclaim for the expressive command of his live performances from critics, concert presenters, and audience members alike. As printed in the Smoky Mountain Sentinel, “Luther captivates his audience through the beauty and intensity of his performance, while he engages even those audience members who are less than fans of classical guitar.” Enloe’s recent performance of Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra was praised by ARTS ATL (artsatl.org) as “magnificent,” stating, “Enloe’s graceful approach to the guitar was readily apparent. It would be tempting to focus on his furious right hand and all of its intricate tremolo picking, but that would only distract from the deft touch his left brings to the fretboard. . . Enloe’s phrasing was nothing short of immaculate. . . The sheer purity of the tones was a gift unto itself and a transcendental pleasure for the ears.”

Enloe’s programs offer an exciting variety of Spanish and Latin American masterpieces as well as contemporary works from the USA that can be appreciated by all audiences. Recent performance highlights include a performance of Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra and the world premiere of Solstice Sonorites, for trumpet and guitar, by Nickitas Demos. Additional recent solo concerts include the 25th ECU Summer Guitar Festival, the Guitar Sarasota Emerging Artists Series, four concerts in southern Sicily, Italy, and a tour of Louisiana and southern Mississippi. A recent special concert of German and French inspired music in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty—with both the French and German consuls in attendance—was described as “compelling and moving” by the consuls general of both France and Germany. This concert featured Enloe as soloist as well as a duo partner with Grammy Award–winning tenor, Richard Clement.

Additional performance highlights include virtual concerts for “Live from the Rialto Center” and the University of Rhode Island Guitar Festival. Enloe has also performed concerts at the I Semana da Música, Literatura, História e Memória do IFPI, in Teresina, Brazil; Ifestival Internacional de Música e Violão Clássico na Joia de Campus, in Pedro II, Brazil; III Seminário Internacional de Violão (IFCE-UFC), in Fortaleza, Brazil; the Texas A&M International Guitar Symposium and Ensemble Competition; the Memphis International Guitar Festival; the Louisville Guitar Society; and Troy University Guitar Festival and Competition, among many others. Television broadcasts of Enloe’s solo and chamber performances are frequently aired in Atlanta on Georgia Public Broadcasting’s Knowledge Channel.

A dedicated teacher, Enloe holds the positions of artist affiliate in guitar at Georgia State University and Emory University. In addition to earning BMus, MM, and DMA degrees at the University of Georgia with John Sutherland, he studied sixteen pieces in nine masterclass settings with American virtuoso Christopher Parkening. Enloe is a Muiderman Guitars sponsored artist as well as a Hill Guitar Company Signature Artist and performs on both a 2018 Kevin Muiderman guitar and 2006 Kenny Hill Signature guitar.
