Performer Biography

Brigid May, harp

Brigid May is a third-year Woodruff Music Scholar from Holly Springs, NC, studying harp with Elisabeth Remy Johnson. They began learning the harp at age nine, previously studying with Jacquelyn Bartlett. They have performed with the North Carolina Harp Ensemble, the Triangle Youth Philharmonic, and statewide and regional NC honors orchestras. In 2021, they received a full-ride scholarship to the Interlochen Summer Harp Program, where they were principal harpist of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. Brigid performed standard chamber works and premiered student compositions at the 2023 Cremona Music Festival while attending Emory Music Department’s “Music in Italy” summer program. Most recently, they attended the 2024 Brevard Summer Festival and Institute as a college division harpist in the orchestral studies program. A highlight of this festival was playing second harp on Claude Debussy’s La Mer in the faculty side-by-side Brevard Music Center Orchestra. Brigid is a member of the Emory University Symphony Orchestra and Emory Wind Ensemble. They also currently hold a position in the New World Symphony’s harpist substitute pool. Alongside Music Performance, Brigid is pursuing a second, interdisciplinary joint major in Classics and English, for which they are studying ancient literature and will write a senior thesis.
