The 32nd season opens with Mozart’s dramatic Piano Quartet in G Minor and Tchaikovsky’s thrilling Souvenir de Florence, String Sextet in D Minor, op. 70, performed by the Vega Quartet, pianist William Ransom, and Atlanta favorites cellist Charae Kruger and violist Yinzi Kong. Amy Moretti, violin, is also featured.

From the African rhythms and fiddle techniques that propel Trevor Weston’s Juba, to the iconic grooves of Janet Jackson, the program includes improvisations on the beat breaks of Daniel Bernard Roumain’s Hip-Hop Studies and Etudes, alongside new works by Pulitzer Prize–finalist Jlin, Mazz Swift, Eddie Venegas, and Jeff Scott.

Adam Mirza and Akiva Zamcheck present a liveimprovised “anti-podcast” performance combining voice, electronics, and a variety of acoustic instruments. They’ll be joined by Nikola Peković (Serbia), a leading proponent of new music for the accordion.

American Railroad: Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens

Led by artistic director Rhiannon Giddens, Silkroad Ensemble’s newest initiative, American Railroad, re-contextualizes the railroad through music. Chinese traditional music on the suona and pipa are contrasted with the fiddle and banjo of Black musical traditions, or their Indigenous and Celtic counterparts. These cultural intersections reveal a thread of commonality despite their varied origins and remind us of the intricately rich American story.

Clara and Robert Schumann were involved in a passionate love triangle with Johannes Brahms. Music of all three composers, including Robert’s great song cycle Dichterliebe, sung by tenor Timothy Miller, highlights the passion, drama, and turbulence of the relationship.
