Grace Li, piano Grace Li, 21, from Marietta, Georgia, is a junior at Emory double majoring in anthropology and human biology and music performance. Li has been playing piano for 16 years and currently studies with Elena Cholakova. Her piano studies began at age five with Ping Yun Hsu. At age 12, she transferred to Soohyun Yun, and from age 15 through college, she studied with Alexander Wasserman. Since second grade, Li has competed and received honors in local, regional, and state competitions through GMEA and GMTA. At Emory, Li is an intern for head of the education committee in the club Health and Development in Guatemala, and serves as a chemistry and human physiology teaching assistant. She also conducts pediatric clinical research in the School of Medicine and environmental/ infant health research in the School of Nursing. Additionally, Li volunteers at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Clarkston Community Health Center. In her free time, Li enjoys watching Spanish television, baking, and spending time outdoors. She would like to thank her parents, her past teachers, and other friends and mentors for their constant support.
Lennox Xu, piano Lennox Xu, 20, from Peachtree Corners, Georgia, is a junior at Emory University studying chemistry and music. He has been playing piano for 13 years and currently studies with Patricia Dinkins-Matthews. He began studying piano under Janice Wong until age nine and then transferred to Elena Cholakova. During this time, Xu participated and won honors in local, regional, and state competitions, including GMEA, GMTA, and the Emory University Young Artist Piano competitions. He was chosen to play a master class after competing in GMEA and, more recently, has played for professional pianist, Rachelle McCabe. While at Emory, Xu has been a chemistry teaching assistant and conducted drug metabolomic research at the Morgan Lab in the Pharmacology Department at the O. Wayne Rollins Research Center and bacterial disease research in the Division of Bacterial Diseases at the Center of Disease Control and Prevention. Xu works at the Winship Cancer Center Institute as an arts in health and student volunteer. In his spare time, Xu plays basketball and likes to try new foods with friends. He would like to thank his parents and grandparents for all of their love and support throughout all of his endeavors, as well as his friends and mentors.
