Caroline Owen, piano

A native of Atlanta, pianist Caroline Owen frequently performs as a soloist and collaborator. She has played in venues across the United States, Canada, and Europe, including the DiMenna Center for Classical Music (New York) and the Wiener Saal and Solitär at the Mozarteum (Salzburg).

Owen was a previous winner of the Florida MTNA Young Artist Competition and a semifinalist in the 14th International Mozart Competition Salzburg and the International Keyboard Odyssiad. She also won the 2018 Pro-Mozart Society of Atlanta Competition, from which she received a scholarship to study at the Salzburg Mozarteum with Dominique Merlet and Christopher Hinterhuber. Owen has appeared as a soloist with the Furman University Symphony Orchestra and, more recently, the Orlando Contemporary Chamber Orchestra in its 2021 and 2023 seasons. Owen has also given performances at the American Liszt Society Festival and the Russian Consulate of Prague. Her 2024–2025 performance schedule includes a world premiere at Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston, multiple chamber music tours across the state of Florida, and an upcoming artist residency at Bowdoin College in April.

Owen has participated in and performed at festivals including PianoFest in the Hamptons, Atlantic Music Festival’s Summer Piano Institute, the PianoTexas Young Artists Program, and the Prague Piano Festival. She has worked with distinguished artists and teachers such as Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Richard Goode, Jerome Lowenthal, Ursula Oppens, and Pascal Rogé, among others.

With a background in dance, Owen has a deep interest in interdisciplinary projects. She particularly enjoys combining her passions for music and dance in her ongoing collaborations with composer and multimedia artist Badie Khaleghian. The duo’s most substantial work, Electric Sky Blue (2022), has been performed in venues across the United States and abroad, as well as festivals including the Seoul International Computer Music Festival, SEAMUS (Society of ElectroAcoustic Music in the United States), Atemporánea Festival (Argentina),

Ammerman Center for Arts & Technology Biennial Symposium, and TurnUp Multimedia Festival. Since fall 2022, Owen has also been touring as a member of the Astralis Chamber Ensemble, with whom she has been featured on the Artist Series of Tallahassee and given masterclasses at Stetson University and Bethune-Cookman University. Owen earned her Doctorate of Music degree in piano performance from Florida State University, where she studied with David Kalhous. Her other primary teachers have included Liza Stepanova (University of Georgia), Derek Parsons (Furman University), and Jody Smith Parrish. In addition to her position as an artist affiliate at Emory University, Owen serves on the faculty at the University of Georgia and is co-director of the Decatur Fine Arts Academy. Outside of making music, she enjoys gardening, hiking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Music at Emory

The Department of Music at Emory University provides an exciting and innovative environment for developing knowledge and skills as a performer, composer, and scholar. Led by a faculty of more than sixty nationally and internationally recognized artists and researchers, our undergraduate and graduate students experience a rich diversity of performance and academic opportunities. Undergraduate students in our department earn a BA in music with a specialization in performance, composition, or research, many of whom simultaneously earn a second degree in another department. True to the spirit of Emory, a liberal arts college in the heart of a research university, our faculty and ensembles also welcome the participation of non-major students from across the Emory campus.
