Rachel Jennings, oboe and English horn Emory University senior Rachel Jennings is from Savannah, Georgia. Born into a musical family, her first piano teacher was her mom. While living in Fernandina Beach, Florida, she began her music career studying oboe in sixth grade as a member of her middle school band. She continued her studies with Kristi Kiene in Savannah, and attended the John Mack Oboe Camp in Little Switzerland, North Carolina. Throughout high school, she participated in her local community youth orchestra and was invited to play with the Savannah Winds, a community wind ensemble. Jennings is a student of Alexandra Shatalova Prior at Emory and she has performed with the Emory Wind Ensemble and the Emory University Symphony Orchestra. She will graduate with bachelor of arts degrees in biology and in music with a concentration in oboe performance. While at Emory, Jennings has worked as a volunteer for Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, has been an officer in her sorority Delta Phi Epsilon, and has served on the leadership team for Reformed University Fellowship. Jennings’s passion for medicine and service led her to work with Ethne Health Clinic in Clarkston, which focuses on medical care for underserved populations. She is now working as their vaccine coordinator and has plans to attend medical school. Jennings would like to thank her friends and family for their unconditional support and love. She would also like to thank all of the teachers and mentors she has had throughout the years including Nancy Holt, Gail McCamy, Pam Helton, Kristi Kiene, Morgan Luttig, Alexandra Shatalova Prior, and all of the professors and conductors she has had the privilege of learning from while at Emory.
