Atlanta Master Chorale proudly marks our 40th anniversary this season, continuing our legacy of crafting one of America's finest choral sounds and bringing singers and audiences to a place "where music touches spirit."
Over the past four decades, we have been known as the Gwinnett Festival Singers, Atlanta Sacred Chorale, and now Atlanta Master Chorale. While there have been many transformations through the years, our mission to sing at the highest level of choral artistry remains.
• Evolved into an auditioned metro-area choir performing 4-5 concert programs each year in the same venue
• Included a repertoire of more than 100 pieces every year from diverse genres and periods
• Performed accompanied and a cappella programs, including collaboration with organ, chamber and full orchestras, a bluegrass band, a sitar and tabla, and many other guest instrumentalists
• Created a choral series that has grown to 23 pieces, published by MorningStar Music/ECS Publishing Group
• Commissioned and premiered 8 new choral works and produced 18 recordings (available on CD and digitally)
• Developed a choral composition competition in 2024 that attracted over 400 applications and 250 submissions
• Achieved national recognition for our choral artistry, including live performances for national audiences at the 2017 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Convention and the 2024 Chorus America Convention
• Launched our YouTube channel in 2014, which now has 8,000 subscribers, 250 music videos, and 3 million views
• Became a 501(c)(3) organization with a board of directors that evolved from volunteer choristers into an award-winning professional board with expertise in finance, construction engineering, church music, development, C-suite level business, the performing arts, and law
• Hired a part-time administrative assistant, then a full-time executive director and a part-time administrator
• Created an Atlanta Master Chorale brand across all media and digital channels
• Crafted strategic plans, developed more sophisticated fundraising practices, and pivoted to digital engagement during COVID
• Became a leader among national choral organizations, and sought regularly for workshops and advice within the arts community
Whether this is your first, fourth, or fortieth season, Atlanta Master Chorale welcomes you to this year-long celebration of our successful mission:
To inspire and enrich the lives of our community through the performance of inspirational choral music, to sing at the highest level of choral artistry, and to be a standard of excellence among performing arts organizations.
You can mark this important 40th anniversary with a gift in any amount. May we suggest amounts featuring the number 4: $4, $40, $400, or more? As always, Atlanta Master Chorale thanks you for your past, present, and future support.

Angels we have heard on high, Sweetly singing o’er the plains, and the mountains in reply Echo back their joyous strains,
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? Say what may the tidings be, which inspire your heavenly song?
Come to Bethlehem and see, him whose birth the angels sing; Come, adore on bended knee, Christ the newborn King.
Traditional Irish Carol, arr. John Rutter (b. 1945) © 1978 Oxford University Press
Good people all, this Christmastime, Consider well and bear in mind, What our good God for us has done, In sending his beloved Son.
With Mary holy we should pray To God with love this Christmas Day; In Bethlehem upon that morn, There was a blessed Messiah born.
The night before that happy tide The noble Virgin and her guide Were long time seeking up and down, To find a lodging in the town.
But mark how all things came to pass: From every door repelled, alas! As long foretold, their refuge all, Was but a humble oxen stall.
Near Bethlehem did shepherds keep Their flocks of lambs and feeding sheep;
To whom God’s angels did appear, Which put the shepherds in great fear. “Prepare and go,” the angels said, “To Bethlehem, be not afraid; For there you’ll find, this happy morn, A princely babe, sweet Jesus born.”
With thankful heart and joyful mind The shepherds went the babe to find, And as God’s angel had foretold, They did our Savior Christ behold.
Within a manger he was laid, And by his side the virgin maid, Attending on the Lord of Life, Who came on earth, to end all strife.
Good people all, this Christmastime, Consider well and bear in mind, What our good God for us has done, In sending his beloved Son.
Traditional English Carol, arr. Ian Crawford (b. 1979) © 2018 Oxford University Press
On Christmas night all Christians sing, To hear the news the angels bring. News of great joy, news of great mirth, News of our merciful King’s birth.
Then why should men on earth be sad, Since our Redeemer made us glad, When from our sin he set us free, All for to gain our liberty?
When sin departs before his grace, Then life and health come its place, Angels and men with joy may sing, All for to see the newborn King.
All out of darkness we have light, Which made the angels sing this night, Glory to God and peace to men, Now and forever more. Amen.

A breath, a cry, A spark of new and ageless light Is born to us
From reaches felt, beyond our sight
His glance, his gaze, His knowing look so sure and bright Somehow we sense, Within his soul is heaven’s might!
And then we see, This holy child in Mary’s care Is peace and hope And joyous rest beyond compare.
And all around, Poor shepherds feel it too, and thrill To find him here, Laid in a manger, soft and still (as angels told them on the hill)
A pure and perfect paschal lamb, Safe, swaddled seed of Abraham, Our Savior, Lord, the great I AM.
The Child of Light! Foretold to come in Bethlehem, To bloom and grow, The fruit and flower of Jesse’s stem Made known to kings by one bright star, Who journey here from lands afar, And bending down behold his face, Perceive his love, receive his grace, And then confess from soul’s deep well, The truth that tongue can never tell:
He is the Child of Light! Who comes to us, our souls to own, And make us his, That we may know as we are known
This Child of Light Who irrevocably will give, His love, his life, That all of us may always live.
So tell the world And fear be gone!
This Child will lead us home anon And we with him, With ever go on and on…

In the bleak midwinter, Frosty wind made moan, Earth stood hard as iron, Water like a stone: Snow had fallen, snow on snow, Snow on snow, In the bleak midwinter, Long ago.
Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him, Nor earth sustain Heaven and earth shall flee away, When He comes to reign, In the bleak midwinter, A stable place sufficed The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
Angels and archangels, May have gathered there, Cherubim and Seraphim, Thronged the air, But only His mother, In her maiden bliss, Worshiped the Beloved, With a kiss.
What can I give Him, Poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; If I were a wise man, I would do my part; Yet what I can, I give Him: give my heart.

There is no rose of such virtue
As is the rose that bare Jesu; Alleluia (praise the Lord)
For in this rose contained was Heaven and earth in little space; Resmiranda (marvelous thing)
By that rose we may well see That he is God in persons three. Pares forma (of equal form)
The angels sungen the shepherds to: “Gloria in excelsis deo.” (glory to God in the highest)
Gaudeamus (let us rejoice)
Leave we all this worldly mirth, and follow we this joyful birth.
Transeamus (we travel on/let us be changed)

I have traveled many moonless nights
Cold and weary with a babe inside And I wonder what I've done Holy father, you have come And chosen me now to carry your son
I am waiting in a silent prayer
I am frightened by the load I bear
In a world as cold as stone
Must I walk this path alone? Be with me now, be with me now
CHORUS
Breath of heaven, hold me together
Be forever near me, breath of heaven
Breath of heaven, lighten my darkness
Pour over me your holiness for you are holy
Breath of heaven
Do you wonder as you watch my face
If a wiser one should have had my place? But I offer all I am
For the mercy of your plan
Help me be strong, help me be, help me

Christmastime is here, happiness and cheer fun for all that children call their favorite time of year.
Snowflakes in the air, carols everywhere, olden times and ancient rhymes of love and dreams to share.
Sleigh bells in the air, beauty everywhere, yuletide by the fireside and joyful memories there.
Christmastime is here, families drawing near. Oh, that we could always see such spirit through the year.

Let it snow!
Let it cover the night with a blanket of white. Let it snow!
Oh, the weather outside is frightful But the fire is so delightful. And since we've no place to go, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
It doesn't show signs of stopping, And I bought some corn for popping The lights are turned way down low. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
When we finally kiss goodnight, How I'll hate going out in the storm! But if you really hold me tight, All the way home I'll be warm.
The fire is slowly dying, And, my dear, we're still goodbyeing. But as long as you love me so, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Let it snow!
Let the winter winds blow and bring lots of snow! Let it snow!

Dashing through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh, O’er the fields we go, laughing all the way. Bells on bobtail ring, making spirits bright, What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight.
CHORUS
Hi! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh.
Now the ground is white, go it while you’re young.
Take the girls tonight, and sing this sleighing song. Just get a bobtail bay, two forty for his speed, Then hitch him to an open sleigh, and crack! you’ll take the lead.
Music and Text: Johnny Marks (1909–1985)
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer had a very shiny nose And if you ever saw it you would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say, "Rudolph, with your nose so bright won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then how the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer You'll go down in history!"

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, fa la la la la, la la la la. ‘Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la, la la la la. Don we now our gay apparel, fa la la la la, la la la la. Troll the ancient Christmas carol, fa la la la la, la la la la.
Fast away the old year passes, fa la la la la, la la la la. Hail the new, ye lads and lasses, fa la la la la, la la la la. Sing we joyous all together, fa la la la la, la la la la. Heedless of the wind and weather, fa la la la la, la la la la. Fa la la la la, la la la la.

O Come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold Him, born the King of angels;
Refrain
O come, let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him Christ the Lord
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation; sing, all ye citizens of heaven above! Glory to God, all glory in the highest!
Refrain
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning. Jesus, to Thee be all glory given. Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas, Let your heart be light. From now on our troubles will be out of sight. Have yourself a merry little Christmas, Make the Yuletide gay, From now on our troubles will be miles away. Here we are, as in olden days, happy golden days of yore. Faithful friends who are dear to us, gather near to us once more. Through the years we all will be together If the fates allow.
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough, And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

What gifts to please a little boy Who has the whole world as his toy?
Here on the clean straw of his throne I lay the only things I own: A battered will, a raveled mind, a broken dream I cannot find.
If I had come to him before And laid them on the stable floor, Not scratched and finger marked then, How new and bright they would have been.
Yet strange things catch a baby’s eyes. There in his hand my frayed heart lies.

Where shepherds lately knelt and kept the angel’s word, I come in half-belief, a pilgrim strangely stirred; But there is room and welcome there for me.
In that unlikely place I find Him as they said: Sweet new-born Babe, how frail, and in a manger bed: A still small voice to cry one day for me.
How should I not have known Isaiah would be there, His prophecies fulfilled? With pounding heart I stare: A Child, a Son, the Prince of Peace—for me.
Can I, will I forget how Love was born and burned Its way into my heart unasked, unforced, unearned, To die, to live, and not alone for me? To die, to live, and not alone for me.

’Twas in the stillness of the night that Jesus came; No blare of trumpets heralded his birth Nor broke the wonted silence of the earth; No clang of bells or blatant hue and cry When Jesus came ’twas night, and the world was still.
’Tis to the quiet heart he loves to come: Not often midst the tumult of the day, When we can find small time to think or pray, Or when, confused by agitating care, We find no secret place for him to share.
We must be still if we his voice would hear. ’Tis to the quiet heart he loves to come.

Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven to earth come down. Fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown! Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art; Visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.
Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit into every troubled breast! Let us all in Thee inherit; let us find thy promised rest; Take away the love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be; End of faith, as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty.
Come, Almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive; Suddenly return and nevermore thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above, Pray and praise thee without creasing, glory in thy perfect love.
Finish, then, thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be; Let us see thy great salvation, perfectly restored in thee; Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place; Till we cast our crowns before Thee, lost in wonder, love and praise.
Amen!
