Biographies

Jonathan Luo is a freshman in Emory’s College of Arts and Sciences intending to major in Computer Science. Originally from Mason, Ohio, he began his musical studies at the age of six at Leung Studios, with Dr. Benita Tse-Leung and Dr. Jackson Leung. He currently studies with Dr. Elena Cholakova at Emory University. Jonathan’s first-place awards include the Ohio Music Teachers Association Buckeye Auditions, Blue Ash-Montgomery Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition. Outside of piano, Jonathan is the music director for Aural Pleasure, Emory’s oldest all-gender a cappella group. Furthermore, Jonathan jumps rope competitively and professionally, and is a member of the US National Jump Rope Team.

Sanjay Aiyar is a junior in Emory’s College of Arts and Sciences, doublemajoring in Biology on the pre-med track and Piano performance. He began learning piano at age 5 with Laura Kerr in the Philadelphia suburbs, and studied with her throughout high school. During his three years at Emory, he has studied with Prof. Erika Tazawa and Dr. Elena Cholakova. In his performing career, Sanjay has earned third place honors at the Charleston International Piano Competition and performed in the Philadelphia Music Teachers Association State Festival. Besides performing classical piano, Sanjay has transcribed numerous compositions by stride and ragtime composers Fats Waller, Art Tatum, and Nat ‘King’ Cole for solo piano. Sanjay has played baseball for almost as long as he has played piano, and currently pitches and plays both infield and outfield for the Emory DII Club Baseball team. Additionally, he is very passionate about geography and participates in competitive GeoGuessr tournaments nationally online.
