Student Biography

Franz Liszt (1811-1886)

Taekyu Lee is a sophomore at Emory University studying chemistry and music. He has been playing piano for the past 14 years and currently studies under the tutelage of Dr. Dinkins-Matthews. Although initially instructed in jazz, he switched his study over to classical music two years into his playing. Since then, Taekyu has accumulated many experiences and techniques pertaining to a diverse range of genres in Western classical tradition. He has performed and done well in many local and regional competitions throughout the years. During high school, he has also performed for residents in various nursing homes and assisted living facilities and even organized ensemble performances with music student volunteers from school. He continues to develop his playing in his studies today and hopes to further explore the depths of classical music.

Apart from the piano, Taekyu is involved in research under the Pak research group, helping to conduct clinical trials on Alzheimer’s Disease. He hopes to eventually become a practicing physician. He plans to always keep music close by, even in these future stages of his life.

Taekyu would like to thank his parents, teachers, and friends for their instruction and support along the way.
