is built on unity — people joining together with a common goal or mission. This is what started the credit union movement many years ago. As a credit union, this is part of our DNA — a trait we’ve coined cooperative spirit that simply means people helping people. For our members and staff, Spero is a

B E T T E R T O G E T H E R ! While this is not true all the time (think oil and water), it certainly fits the partnership of Spero Financial and the former Anderson Federal Credit Union (AFCU). The merger of these two great institutions in February 2021, was the culmination of years of ongoing dialogue between the management teams of the two credit unions. From the outset, the overarching goal was to ensure there would not only be a financial fit but also a strong cultural tie between the employees and members of a combined organization. Success would be measured by a partnership that was GREAT for three key groups:
• Employees • Membership • Community All former AFCU employees were equipped with more resources, data systems, and tools to better serve Spero’s members. In addition, employee compensation, benefits, and career opportunities were protected, and in many cases, enhanced. Members now have greater lending and share deposit opportunities. In addition to digital banking services, members now enjoy access to ten physical branch locations across our service area from Anderson to Spartanburg. Average share per member has grown, as well as the number of Spero services used by the member. Community impact was incredibly positive. The market presence and brand recognition for Spero Financial continues to significantly expand throughout Upstate South Carolina. Our support of Anderson University, as well as several charitable organizations in the community have fostered our reputation as a caring organization. Without a doubt, the partnership between Spero Financial and the former Anderson Federal Credit Union has proven that we are better together. In the 1990s, a catchword was circulating throughout the business community and being adopted as a key to success: SYNERGY — the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations produces a joint effect greater than the sum of their separate efforts (2+2 = 6). The synergy produced when AFCU joined Spero Financial has proven that we are better together and well prepared to soar in 2022 and beyond!

5-Year Growth Analysis ASSETS
2021 A S C H A I R M A N of the Supervisory Committee, it is with great privilege to report another strong fiscal year for Spero Financial Federal Credit Union. As of December 31, 2021, financial outcomes reflect sound, operational stability for the organization, in conjunction with favorable quarterly internal audit reports. These measures are a result of how the management and staff

of Spero Financial are unrelenting in exercising sound judgment and practices as they carry out their fiduciary responsibilities in utilizing member funds so that both members and the Credit Union can soar financially now and into the future. Each year Spero Financial undergoes an external audit from a third-party CPA firm as an added layer of accountability. This audit measures the effectiveness of the organization’s financial management. I am pleased to report that Spero Financial has yet again received a very positive “unmodified opinion” regarding the Credit Union’s financial statements for 2021 year-end.

Member Spotlight
WHEN SHE BECAME A SPERO MEMBER in June of 2001, Marilyn Sumter wanted more than just savings accounts and nancial services. She wanted to feel like she belonged. “Community is extremely important to me,” she shared. “Serving the community, being a part of the community, interacting with the community — community is everything.” As Marilyn got to know the Spero team, she realized she’d found something special. “There is nothing like walking into your neighborhood branch and being greeted with a warmth that makes you feel like family, like they’re always happy to see you” .This sense of belonging gave her the condence she needed to make a fresh start. “ pero Financial has helped me in all aspects of my life, from buying my rst S ev hicle and purchasing both of my homes to my personal loans and credit cards. They'ev helped me on a nancial journey that has me settled.” Reecting on her journey, she added, “They gave me a chance to start my life over.” The thing that stood out most to Marilyn was the Spero team’s willingness to help, even with situations that other nancial institutions tend to avoid. evE“ rybody messes p u on their credit. evE rybody doesn't get nances right. evE rybody doesn't get budgeting right. evE rybody doesn't get life right. But Spero Financial? They're going to stand by your side, comfort you, and help you make your situation better.” While she’s had plenty of wonderful experiences with the Spero team over the years, Marilyn remembers one in particular that perfectly captured Spero’s commitment to improving the nancial lives of its members. Facing a challenging nancial situation, she discussed the details with a Spero associate who simply responded, I“ t’s okay. Let’s see what we can do.” Let’s see what e w can do. With a smile spreading across her face as she told her story, Marilyn said it’s the “we” that sets Spero apart. “When they comfort you by saying it’s okay and then give you the ability and encouragement to accomplish your nancial goals, it makes it easy to let your guard down and see what we can do together.”
