Lower School Enrichment
At Sierra Canyon, learning forward continues after the official school day ends.
Our Lower School offers an exciting range of programs before and after school led by caring professional teachers and coaches. Your child keeps on learning and playing right here on our expansive Lower Campus (which means you don’t have to drive somewhere else). Might one or more of these options work for your family?
AFTER-SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES
We encourage our students to explore new interests and develop existing talents through a rich variety of courses including Lego robotics, chess, sports clinics, rocket science, math team, foreign language, martial arts, dance, and theater. Your child can additionally delve into film making, music production, coding, and video game design in our Creative Tech Club, and learn more about animation, painting, drawing, and photography in our Young Artists Masterclass. Private and group music classes are also offered throughout the academic year. Classes and prices are posted on our website prior to each semester.
EXTENDED DAY CARE
We provide supervised playtime on our beautiful campus grounds. Extended day care is offered until 6:00 p.m. and before school starting at 7:00 a.m. This option is free of charge for all families.
HOMEWORK CLUB
Starting in first grade, your child can complete their homework in a supervised classroom before leaving school. This option is free of charge for all families.
ATHLETIC TEAMS
Beginning in 4th Grade, your child can join a professionally coached, no-cut sports team, building both athletic skills and sportsmanship. During PE, students are introduced to four or five sports at the beginning of three sports seasons. After spending a few days at the start of each season trying the four or five options, students then select one of the sports and join that athletic “team” for the remaining season. No experience is necessary for any particular sport, but rather a willing mind and positive attitude. Sierra Canyon has a no-cut policy through 12th Grade, and all who would like to join and play for a team are encouraged to do so!
Practices occur three times a week during scheduled PE times, enabling students to balance homework, family time, and other extracurricular activities. Most sports will compete inter-scholastically against other private schools (basketball, swimming, volleyball, soccer, flag football), while others, like tennis and lacrosse, will be intramural-style games after school. We design the seasons to be short so as not to overlap, allowing all students to maximize their potential by trying new things.
