WP4 – working session – comments and recommendation for possible update of development of new training program – FUNdamentals for 8-9yrs group (Simona Torricelli)
What have we done so far? ● ● ● ●
1 lesson per week starting from the first week of October in three different groups age 6-7 and 8-9 years old translated the lessons meetings to discuss the work done video to show a possible development
We focused on some main issues TIME ● ● ●
too many exercises in 1 hour time we have 50 minutes (maybe 45) including welcome, communications and farewell after several trainings we decided to cut the exercises up to a half
We focused on some main issues STRUCTURE ● ● ● ●
warm up too long and dispersive children tend to get distracted and get bored the first half of the training session is not fun for children, especially stretching in most of the training sessions, almost half an hour without the ball
We focused on some main issues OTHER SPORTS ● ● ●
the gyms are not always adequately equipped some sports can be complicated to manage, especially with large groups (especially martial arts) for children it is strange to do a sport other than volleyball
We focused on some main issues CENTRAL PHASE â—? â—?
focus on the central phase kids must practice and play for the major part of the training sessions
We focused on some main issues DESCRIPTION ● ●
sometimes it’s difficult to understand exercises sometimes it’s difficult to understand the development of the training sessions
We focused on some main issues TRANSLATION ● ●
it’s hard to read sport, it’s harder to read it and understand it in another language it takes a long time to translate the lessons
Our recommendations TIME - cut the exercises up to a half and concentrate to the remaining (quality, non quantity) STRUCTURE - shorten the start phase and incorporate it into games (kids must have fun also during stretching, it must be playful) STRUCTURE - incorporate the ball in all the phases of the training
Our recommendations OTHER SPORTS - use games from other sports, maybe in the warm-up phase, not in the middle of the training session OTHER SPORTS - establish synergies with sports clubs that do other sports, for special training, not for each lesson (“special guests training)
Our recommendations CENTRAL PHASE - we should focus on play and practice volleyball TRANSLATION - we should think to allocate budget for translations DESCRIPTION - it would be useful to have a glossary in which we clarify the meaning of some words DESCRIPTION - a guide to all the exercises and games to attach to the technical training guide would be useful
Our proposal
Final comment The program, as it is, looks perfect for schools as a physical education training. We, as clubs, should stay focused on volleyball. We must remember that volleyball is our core business. We have the responsibility to develop a new way to spread minivolley, paying attentions to the potential drop out caused by use of the full Funball program, as it is today.
Our goal KIDS MUST HAVE FUN KIDS MUST PLAY WITH THE BALL WE DON’T HAVE TO FORGET THAT FUNBALL MEANS FUN FOR VOLLEYBALL, SO VOLLEYBALL FIRST
THANK YOU!
