WP4 – working session – comments and recommendation for possible update of development of new training program – FUNdamentals for 8-9yrs group (Simona Torricelli)
What have we done so far? ● ● ●
kept working in three different groups age 6-7 and 8-9 years old once a week adapting the lessons provided in the handbook 2 meetings to discuss the work done with the working team pics and video to show the structure of an adapted lesson with the 8-9 years old group
We focused on some main issues WARM UP GAMES â—? â—?
there are no warm up games for the 8-9 years old we used the ones indicated for the 6-7 years old
We focused on some main issues TECHNICAL SKILLS VS. TIME â—?
the exercises indicated to develop technical skills take a long time. It is required to do at least 5-6 correct repetitions, which - for kids - can take 10-15 times. In a limited amount of time, this might mean that not all the kids have the opportunity to practice. This methodology is more suitable for a proper volleyball team (even a young one, but a structured team in a structured volleyball training session)
We focused on some main issues TECHNICAL SKILLS VS. TIME â—?
there are no (of few) exercises to practice only fundamentals to develop technical skills in pairs or alone with the ball
We focused on some main issues AGE GROUP GAP ● ●
●
there is a huge gap between the training modules for the 6-7 years old and 8-9 years old we have to consider that these age groups include 4 years gap among kids (2 seasons for 6-7 years old and 2 seasons for 8-9 years old) exercises can be too easy or too difficult
Our recommendations WARM UP GAMES - add warm up games in the 8-9 yeard old training modules TECHNICAL SKILLS - give every kid the chance to practice, not considering striktly the correct repetitions
Our recommendations TECHNICAL SKILLS - add at least one “pure fundamental” exercise in every training session AGE GROUP GAP - add to the training module the development of and exercise (for 1 exercise we could have the “basic” and the “advanced”)
Our training session
Final comment We work on the same handbook we had in December so the overall conclusion has not changed yet. We need to implement the new handbook with the suggestions and considerations discussed together in Avignon.
THANK YOU!
