Association News

From The Board of Directors Our mission as the SCOV Board is to lead in maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in Sun City Oro Valley as an active adult community. All Board minutes, agendas and reports are available online and in the SCOV Library. Board meetings are open to residents.

Board of Directors laurens1932@gmail.com This and That by Lauren Strassburg The Board does not meet for regular meetings in July and August. Board members are off to other areas and will come back reinvigorated, ready to conduct business on Monday, September 25. One of the Board’s goals is to prioritize future capital projects. If you have an idea for any future capital projects, relay that information to a Board member. All reasonable projects that are for the betterment of Sun City are acceptable for consideration. If you’ve been here, or are keeping track, it’s been a hot summer. However, thanks to our dedicated employees, Sun City business carries on as usual. A good example was the Sun City Singers’ July 4th concert with attendance exceeding capacity. (Or was it the ice cream supplied by the Association?) Project Status Update: The restaurant kitchen renovation is on schedule. A notto-exceed budget was approved at the June Board meeting. The restaurant could be closed mid-August through September. In an effort to provide service to residents, staff is exploring providing breakfast in the Activity Center. Additionally, limited service will be available on the Terrace or the Lounge for breakfast and or lunch. All options are being explored. Desert Oasis renovation is on schedule. After many meetings with the contractor, architect and design engineers, permitting is happening. The facility could be closed from midAugust through September. Efforts are being made to keep the pool open, however, should it be necessary to close the pool, using the Oro Valley Aquatic Center is a good option. It is very child friendly. When you have family visiting with small children, the Oro Valley facility is geared for children. There have been several instances of sight lines being restored by shrubs cut to 6 feet tall. This appears to be a small step to regaining all resident appreciation of the full benefits our location offers. Safety issues addressed with only 42 inch tall shrubs beside driveways has been well received with overall compliance.

Staff is continuing to work on computer software to modernize and establish controls on our guest sign-in process for the big pool and the Fitness Center. It should enable tracking who and where the guests are coming from.

General Manager - Mark Wade mwade@suncityorovalley.com 520-917-8080 He Said, She Said... Rumors and Gossip Rumors and gossip have been around for a long, long time. While they tend to be good friends, their friends tend to be much like them. They would rather relay faulty information than check to verify the truthfulness. After all, it sounds better if embellished. Why, I’ve heard it said that if a rumor is repeated three times it is considered fact. I guess that explains why the rumor-busting website, snopes.com, gets about 9 million hits per month. I grew up in a part of Idaho where we got a lot of snow. We’d get snowed in for a week or more at one time. During the winter months, stories were told about fishing and hunting and such. I remember a fish story about a small 12 inch fish at the first of winter would be told and retold so many times that by the end of spring, that same fish was being reeled in from the front of a 12-foot boat and, while his head was at the front, his tail fin was hitting the motor at the back. It is not much different here. While some stories are told for entertainment, as was the fish story above, others are told about supposed facts in the community. Some of these stories seem to be told without much regard for truth. If you ever hear any such “factual” stories, and think it a bit strange or question the integrity of the story, I’d encourage you to either send me an e-mail, call or stop in, and I’ll be happy to tell you the truth or do the research if I don’t know the answer and get you the truth. There are not many friendships I’d like to break up, but the one between rumor and gossip is definitely one we all could do without.

It’s More Than Living... It’s A Lifestyle! Games, Games and More Games Fun Ways to Spend Those Hot Summer Days and Nights by Julia Holtry

t’s a hot day in August. Wouldn’t it be ideal to spend a I few hours indoors with a fun group of people playing a new game or one you already know? Year-round, whether

it is day or evening, there are people enjoying a fun game of: bridge, bunco, cribbage, euchre, five crown, gin rummy, hand and foot, Mah Jongg, Mexican train dominoes, pinochle, poker, Scrabble, sheepshead, or women’s pan. Don’t know how to play? Others will be happy to teach you. Ah yes, there’s Mah Jongg. It’s cheaper than a therapy session and definitely more fun than exercising. Friends meet for Mah Jongg each week along with kibitzing about their lives while focusing on this challenging game. The outside world and everyday worries are left behind as the beautiful tiles are mixed and the game begins. As the rhythm of the game flows, conversation yields to concentration until one lucky player squeals at a win and yells, “Mah Jongg!” Did you know that Chinese historical evidence carries Mah Jongg back to the time of Confucius? The tiles probably evolved from Dominoes, which also was invented Mah Jongg players: Judy Hood, Karen Koch, Terri by the ChiAlverdes, Nancy Fowler, Roni Landsberg and nese and Joanne Wickberg. known to be 1,000 years old. The Mandarins, believing Mah Jongg to be the property of their class, refused permission to other inhabitants of the country to enjoy the pleasure of this aristocratic pastime. But in 1911, when China became a republic, the game was no longer confined to the Mandarins. To this day, it is the most popular game in China. A businessman named Joseph P. Babcock introduced the game into this country, which was enthusiastically received by the American public. The National Mah Jongg League was formed in 1937 codifying the rules of the game. Ask any Mah Jongg player and they will tell you they are addicted to the game. And then there is bunco. It is a game with lots of laughter and players moving in a fury from one table to another throwing the dice. It’s a game for partners, but don’t worry about coming alone, you will always be paired up with someone. Ever hear of Sheepshead? Come on in and find out more about this American version of a European card game known as Schafkopf.

And poker…boy do we have poker: Texas hold’em, crazy pineapple, Omaha, seven-card stud, criss-cross, slide-rule and some variations of five card draw. Feeling lucky? Hand and foot is one of the more popular pastimes, and it has nothing to do with your anatomy. If you like Canasta, you’ll love hand and foot. Delores Ross and Rosemary Dalla Rosa are avid euchre fans but they also tout Five Crown. Delores says, “Come play Five Crown with us. If you don’t know how, you will in the first 15 minutes. It’s fun and fast.” And what about euchre? Delores and Rosemary are among 60 of our residents who regularly play euchre even though the game is most popular Group playing euchre. in the East and Midwest. The game is traced to the Pennsylvania Dutch and spread throughout the country to become one of the leading games. What is a euchre? Simply put, a euchre is when your opponents declare they are going to win by taking a designated number of tricks but don’t succeed. It’s a fast moving game played in the evening and is better than watching TV. All you need is 50¢ and you’re in the groove with new friends. Munchies and treats are allowed too. Maria Welch says,”As the night goes on our voices seem to get louder and louder…it’s such a fun group.” Women’s pan (panguingue) invites you to come and watch the play. If you like what you see, they will teach you. Is bridge your game? We’ve got multiple clubs for bridge players. If it has been on your bucket list, it’s never too late to learn this fascinating and challenging game. And, of course, the standard brain twisters of cribbage, gin rummy, pinochle and Scrabble are some of our best classic games. Regardless of the game or games you choose, you will surely enjoy the warm sense of camaraderie, good conversation and relaxing play. You will feel pride in developing your skills and enhancing your brain power as you meet the challenges of each game. One thing is for sure, these pastimes are not only games but are instruments that promote friendships and a sense of community. Come join us for some fun during these hot, lazy days of summer.

As in the past, the financial statement for June is not included in the August Tipster due to time constraints for completion of year-end procedures. Financial statements can be found on our website www.scovaz.com and in our SCOV Library. Programs/Facilities Director - Pam Sarpalius psarpalius@suncityorovalley.com 520-917-8077 This and That I want to thank the Sun City Singers for putting on a great 4th of July show. This event always draws the most residents. We are sorry that the air-conditioner could not keep up, but we hope the ice cream provided by the Association helped cool you off. Remodeling projects at the Desert Oasis and the restaurant kitchen will result in some time changes for club meetings. The Auditorium will be used to serve breakfast. More details will come from restaurant management. We are happy to be able to have another free outdoor movie for you in September. This year we would like to have more people using lawn chairs and blankets. A trip to the Mesa Flea Market on Friday, September 22,

provides a fun day and start to holiday shopping as well as goodies for yourself. I hope you take part in activities provided by the Association.

Community Services - Katy Mosier Office Hours 9-11 AM, Monday-Friday, Welcome Center kmosier@suncityorovalley.com 520-917-8058 Selling Your Home The Arizona weather is hot and so is the real estate market in Sun City. We have been experiencing heavy home sales for several months. In March of 2015, the SCOV Board decided to give resident sellers more time to make any adjustments to bring their homes into line with the governing documents prior to a sale. This is accomplished by contacting the Community Services Coordinator (CSC) Office to arrange a Listing Inspection as soon as or just prior to when a home is listed. The CSC will contact an Architectural Compliance Team (ACT) member to contact you for an appointment to review the exterior of the home. After they have completed the inspection, if a seller is on site, the ACT member is most happy to review the results with you verbally before they mail a copy of their worksheet. If an owner is not living in the home, the listing Realtor often makes these arrangements and then follows up with the owner to address the violations. If there are any deficiencies, you as seller will have the option of correcting them before an offer is accepted. Up until an offer is accepted by an owner, and an escrow is set up by the title company, you may request a re-inspection by the ACT. Once the offer goes to the title company, there are no re-inspections until 30 days after the home has closed. If a seller decides not to correct any deficiencies, the buyer will inherit them at closing and will be responsible to have them corrected within 30 days after closing at which time the ACT will re-inspect the property. If a home sells before a Listing Inspection can be arranged, an Escrow Inspection will be ordered by the title company.

SCOV Library - Kate Cusumano suncityorovalley.com/about/amenities-facilities/library Online catalog: webopac.infovisionsoftware.com/suncityorovalley kcusumano@suncityorovalley.com 520-917-8083 Did you know that our library has about 2,400 videos? This includes 120 documentaries, 164 foreign films and 146 television series. The popularity of television series has soared with our summer temperatures. Currently the most popular shows are “A Place to Call Home,” set in post WW II Australia, “The Americans,” about deep cover Soviet sleeper agents in the U.S. during the 1980s, and “A French Village,” set in an occupied 1940s France. Visit a foreign locale, or tangle with Cold War spies from the comfort of your armchair. Some of our latest book titles include: House of Spies by Daniel Silva, and Paradise Valley by C.J. Box in fiction; The Late Show by Michael Connelly, and Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance in audiobooks; and The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory, and Paradise Valley by C.J. Box, in large print. We are introducing two new television series, “The Affair” (Seasons 1 & 2), and “Broadchurch” (Seasons 1 & 2), and Season 4 of “Longmire” has arrived. Stop by soon.

Recreation and Fitness - Lonnie Davis ldavis@suncityorovalley.com 520-917-8073 Reasons Why Walking Is a Great Way To Exercise Walking isn’t always thought of as a serious form of exercise. But in fact, taking a walk is a better workout than most people would expect. As a way to get or stay fit, walking has some important things going for it, of which more people should be aware. Here are some of the big advantages of walking as a form of exercise. It can be enjoyable. Walking is a lot more pleasant than most other exercises, many of which can be downright miserable. This is partly because walking can be done outside, in nature. Experiencing the fresh air and natural sights of the outdoors can be a wonderful experience, and numerous trails and parks are perfect for walking. It’s low-impact. Walking is a relatively gentle workout, especially in comparison to many other popular exercises. Running, for example, applies significant pressure to the joints and spine with every stride, while the movements required by walking place minimal stress on the body. This means that walking will lower the risk of injuries. Clearly walking as a means of getting regular exercise should get more respect. Special Note From the Aquatic and Fitness Center (AFC) Orientation on how to use the gym equipment will be held every Thursday at 1 PM, so stop in and sign up. Contact Lonnie Davis, AFC Coordinator, to discuss questions or problems with the AFC. AFC and Desert Oasis: See Hours of Operation on page 2. Tuesday, August 8, the AFC pool and spa will be closed

Association Committees Active Health Chair Janyce Lundstedt 503-475-0520 janyce.lundstedt@gmail.com Sep.-Apr, Second Tue., 1:30 PM, WC1 suncityorovalley.com/members-login/committees/active-health The Active Health Committee (AHC) has recently updated its information on the SCOV website. By going to our website, you will find our charter, annual accomplishments, and meeting agendas and minutes. By going to Members > Member services > Health and Fitness, you will find information that will help you stay active and healthy. Examples include presentation flyers, walking and biking maps and several non-commercial, researchbased, health related websites. You will also find the list of AHC-sponsored support groups. These are also noted in the Partnered Organizations section of each Tipster. Let us know if this information is helpful and if you have questions or requests. Plans for next season begin with an Association-sponsored balance class Mondays, 10:30-11:30 AM, AFC, starting October 2, $20/10 classes, or $3 drop-in charge. Our first of five monthly presentations for the 2017-2018 season is Saturday, December 9, 1 PM, Auditorium. Watch here for more information.

Aquatic Fitness Center Advisory Chair Stan Shopa First Wed., 11:30 AM, WC1 afc@suncityorovalley.com We will resume our meetings in September.

Architectural Review Janice Strassburg 520-338-2568, janicestrassburg@gmail.com Second and Fourth Tue., 2 PM, WC3 This is the time of year to look into doing those projects you have put off through the busy winter months. That wall, fence, room addition, new landscaping or whatever outdoor bling you have been thinking of doing, summer is as good a time as any. It could be that the workers you need may not be as busy. If landscaping is part of your plan, please check the approved plant list, and do not plant a tree that is not approved. The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) would not enjoy asking you to remove a newly planted tree or shrub that is prohibited. Asking residents to trim some overgrown shrubs has not created havoc. It is still nicer if a resident is aware they may have a shrub that disrupts a neighbors sight line and they trim it without receiving a violation letter. Have a great summer.

it myself. This led to a California trip in the 1970s to study with a lapidary expert. I started with silver and eventually worked in all metals. I still enjoy sterling silver as settings for the beautiful stones I cut or cabochons I find. In addition, designs without stones, using textures, are my trademark. Custom wedding bands have always been an important part of my work. Nothing is more pleasing than to see someone excited to purchase a piece of my work and to have them enjoy it for years to come.”

The next committee meeting is Monday, October 16. If you have questions regarding the committee, please submit them to Sharon Miller. Stay cool.

Loan Room - Community Assistance Chair Gay Russell 520-825-5763 Meeting Third Thu., 3 PM, WC1

Food and Beverage Advisory Chair Barb McNeill, bjmac68@gmail.com Oct.-Jun., First Fri.

The Loan Room remains open throughout the summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 AM. We are located at the end of the Cart Barn, but you need to park in the parking lot outside of the Cart Barn. The summer is a slower time for us and gives you an opportunity to come in and see what we have available for loan. Be sure to bring your SCOV card when you pick up items. The fob will not work for our system. You may be aware of some major changes taking place within the space of the Loan Room. We ask your indulgence and cooperation over the next months and years as we relocate items and work in a smaller space.

Late this month, the kitchen remodel should get underway. We will need to be flexibile as we try to accommodate our clubs with limited space and still serve meals to our residents. Staff is working on a plan so that breakfast, lunch, happy hours and dinner can be served for the 3-4 weeks of remodel time. Meals will include: a breakfast buffet of eggs, meat, potatoes, baked goods, fruit and beverages served from 7-11 AM. Seating in the Lounge and grilling on the Terrace will include items like hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, potato salad, coleslaw and beverages. The biggest issue is refrigeration and storage, so understand that meal choices must be limited. The dining room will be used for kitchen storage while the work goes on. As we continue to make The Views an amenity we all can be proud of, please support your restaurant during the summer months. Most of all, be patient, while we all adjust to the temporary situation.

Friends of the Library Lynne Davis lynnedavis100@gmail.com Pat Brown patbrown630@gmail.com Need a beach read, or better in SCOV, an A/C read? We have new books that might be good companions for inside activities while the weather is hot. Thanks to the Sun City Vistoso Foundation, we have new, current large print books, which are great for reading at the pool with sunglasses on. Friends of the Library will meet in the fall, but are always thinking of new ways to support our great Library. If you would like to create a lasting legacy upon the passing of a loved one by having donations made to the SCOV Library in their honor or include us in your estate planning, please contact our librarian. Neighborhood Pride Chair Tempe Johnson 520-825-6994 Third Tue., 2 PM, WC3 Perhaps You Can Help Summer rains and winds finally came. Help keep a watchful eye out and report any property damage to Administration. With so many of our neighbors away at this time of the year, we need to be especially aware of our surroundings. Pesky weeds seem to appear overnight with the monsoon season, so remove them from your yard as soon as possible. Has wind from the storms caused excessive tree debris in your yard? Keep your driveway and the sidewalk swept, so that your home doesn’t appear vacant and be an invitation to a burglar. Is there standing water in your yard? With the rain that we have had, it’s important to drain ponds and/or fountains in yards to eliminate standing water where mosquitoes can breed. Check other items outside your home that may collect rain, such as buckets, empty flower pots and other containers, to be sure they are not holding standing water. Thanks for your help in our extremely hot summer months.

Properties Chair Rich Oaks richoaks114@gmail.com Third Thu., 9 AM, WC1 The mission of the Properties Committee is to make recommendations to the Board of Directors and the staff regarding the condition of, and recommended improvements to, SCOV facilities and assets. Ongoing activities include semiannual inspections of SCOV buildings and facilities, semiannual inspection of Chalk Creek and monitoring of the Sun City solar systems. Intermittent activities include utility usage studies and projects requested by the Board or as deemed appropriate by the committee. We are looking for new members to help with these tasks or residents with some expertise that only want to help on specific projects. The Properties Committee will not meet in August. Our next meeting will be Thursday, September 21, 9 AM, WC.

overseed begins. This year, the transition was much improved over the previous years. The changes to overseeding seed rates, rotating non-overseed holes each year, increasing the frequency of aerification throughout the entire year and increased levels of hand watering dry areas during late spring have all contributed to the fight against salts and dying Bermuda grass. Even areas that were weak this year had more underlying Bermuda grass than previous years so the amount of sprigging and sodding was reduced. The goal is to improve the conditions every May and June and reduce the amount of regrassing required before the humidity of August. By having more Bermuda grass recover each transition, the following transition is that much better. Next year, the greens will be needle tined each month starting in January and the fairways will continue to be deep tined during the spring to continue encouraging Bermuda grass recovery in April and May.

Call Kat at 917-8068 for details. Head Golf Professional - Kim Griggs kgriggs@theviewsgolfclub.com 520-917-8053 As everything is slowing down due to the hot weather, the Pro Shop staff is gearing up behind the scenes for another fun season. I will be ordering new range balls and scorecards. Please stop by our fully stocked Pro Shop to check out our closeout specials and our new summer hat supply. Come visit with our friendly staff and find a bargain. Our current golf rate cards can also be picked up in the Pro Shop. Buy your very own range pass card so you will not have to keep getting tokens from the Pro Shop. Stop by and ask for our pricing options and more details. Also, remember that SCOV residents receive a 15% discount on apparel, and golf pass holders will receive 30% off. Remember that monsoon season is upon us and brings rain and lightning. Whenever you see lightning, get indoors as quickly as possible. Lightning is nothing to fool around with. Just ask Lee Trevino. Also, drink plenty of fluids and keep your body hydrated. Carrying a wet towel is also a great idea with the triple digit temperatures we are experiencing.

Superintendent - Michael Kropf scvgolf@suncityorovalley.com 520-917-8063 August is a happy time for golf course maintenance because the brutal hot, dry temperatures of May and June are over. August is generally miserable for most people, because the monsoons bring a dramatic increase in humidity, which people find uncomfortable. However, this increase in humidity is fantastic for growing Bermuda grass. All of the work performed between May and June to sprig and aerify the fairways, greens and tees prepares the grass to recover very quickly. The golf course will be back to being in great shape all the way until the end of September when

Our field of dreams has taken on the look of summer at The Views Golf Course. Fairways are under repair with many spots growing new grass and requiring plenty of water. Greens have been punched and sanded. Bunkers are being refurbished, and a new liner system is being installed on a few holes. With all this activity, and in spite of temperatures ranging up to 115 degrees, approximately 32 members of the Men’s 18-Hole Golf Club made the 7 AM shotgun each Wednesday morning. If you are new to the area, think about joining us. You would be paired with other members and will have the opportunity to meet some of your like-minded neighbors. Here is the schedule of August games: August 2, 2-man Chapman; August 9, low net; August 16, 2-man best ball; August 23, 2-man shamble and August 30, stapleford. Good luck.

In addition, the USGA and R&A publish a book called Decisions on the Rules of Golf, which are specialized rulings that have been standardized over the years, based on questions that have come up in competitive play. He believes that culinary art is truly in the balance of the dish’s ingredients with the beauty of the food speaking for itself, and that plate arrangement and garnish complexity are additional enhancements. The designs come from various inspirations such as nature, sports, treasured memories and perhaps just a photo observed in a magazine. Fortunately, the shop is not a production facility but rather, a hobby center where the end products just happen to be for sale to interested visitors. Special thanks to Gilbert Marquez for taking such good care of us all these years, and sincere best wishes to him in retirement. Astronomy Pres. Ron Collins 812-344-4772 scovastronomy@gmail.com Oct.-May, Third Thu., 7 PM, Activity Center/Navajo scovastronomy.com

At an Astronomy Club program in 2009, given by Dr. Pompei from the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO) on Kitt Peak, he mentioned a small telescope kit NOAO had developed for students to interest them in astronomy. After that meeting, the club decided to find a way to provide those telescopes to students at Coronado K-8 School on Oracle Road just north of SCOV. A group of club members met with the school principal, a fifth grade science teacher and a NOAO astronomer to discuss an outreach program. The astronomer was also the local manager of Project Astro, a program that teams up science teachers with amateur astronomers to conduct classroom astronomy exercises. All were receptive to the idea, and the school was very interested in participating. To prepare for conducting classroom exercises in astronomy, four club members, Bob Cratty, Dave Thompson, Harland Goertz, Carol Bull and three Coronado science teachers attended a two-day training session at U of A and Kitt Peak. And the outreach program took off. To pay for the telescopes the club asked SCOV residents to donate through the Arizona State Tax Credit program. To date telescopes have been provided for every fifth grader for the past eight years (over 700 telescopes). Excess money has been used to send seventh graders to Summer Astronomy Camp on Kitt Peak or Mt. Lemmon, and 24 students have attended camp in the last four years. These successful programs have generated both educational help for students and good publicity for the SCOV community and the Astronomy Club.

In September we will discuss El Paso by Winston Groom, the first work of fiction in 20 years from the author of Forrest Gump. The book is set during the Mexican Revolution and follows a Boston railroad magnate as he desperately searches across the Sierra Madres for his grandchildren who have been kidnapped by Pancho Villa.

Thank you Jane Myerson, Jim Williams and Garry Buck for moderating the free summer courses. You add a greatly appreciated learning opportunity during the quiet of the summer months. Fall course registration resumes August 1–31. Nine courses are offered. Check the website to be certain the course you wish to take is still open. There are no refunds if you sign up for a course that is indicated as closed. Once you register, make certain to add the dates and times of each class for which you registered to your calendar so you do not miss a class. Not an ILR member yet? It’s easy to join. If you are a current resident with paid association fees, complete the Membership Application/Registration Form found on the website and send this along with a one-time initiation fee of $25 pp. Mail this to the club box address, printed at the bottom of the form. When you join, you may register for courses ($10 each), workshops and attend Samplers. Your email address is added to the group and you receive updates and reminders as well as the opportunity to vote on items requiring a member vote. Do you remember where you put your ILR name tag? It’s the one on a blue lanyard and has your first name in big, clear letters. When you find it, put it with your ILR materials or in your calendar for that first day of class. Wear it to classes. It is a big help to classmates and moderators.

Poets Corner James Pavlakis 520-612-7328 pavlakisj@yahoo.com.mx Mon., 10 AM-Noon, Desert Oasis/Saguaro Love poems, despite their abundance, can still be engaging and surprising, if not exactly romantic in the fashion of Lord Byron. David Jordan’s “Questions of the Heart” is an excellent example: “Love slips away/like starshine, like the sea,/like summer. It’s here,/it’s gone,/you didn’t see it go. Somehow,/though, love turned/to expectation, to demand,/to negotiation, to eyes/turned aside/from questions of the heart. “I equated love/with fate, believed/a specific someone waited/out there/for each of us,/the task was to stay loose,/ stay alert, grab love’s main chance/when it came. Now I realize/people connect/for a million wrong reasons,/collide and entwine/and slide away and sometimes/split but often stay/ together yet apart, year/after year, and then one day/a man is fifty years old/and wishing/someone loved him.” When love, like our springtime, leaves us, poetry helps us grieve.

Summer is a great time to commit to a core strengthening exercise routine. Why not try Pilates? Small summer classes offer you a great opportunity to learn. Even 40 years after his death, the Joseph Pilates exercise system is in high demand. Fortunately, Sun City offers these classes twice per week on Mondays and Thursdays. People ask can the benefits, which come from the strengthening and stretching exercises we do, really develop the body’s core (abdomen and back muscles), increase spine mobility and build flexibility? The answer is a firm yes. Additional benefits you will notice when taking the group mat classes are better balance, more

Vistoso Helpful Hands Barb McNeill 520-825-0677 bjmac68@gmail.com Recently, I was asked who to call in this situation: a woman staggering around, mid-day in over 100 degree temperatures without water, admitting not knowing where she lives. About 12 blocks later, she recognized her house. A man walked out the door, said he knew her and into the house she went. Still concerned, my neighbor asked me “What should I do?” Call the Oro Valley Police non-emergency number 520229-4900 and request a wellness check. They are wellequipped to handle this. If they are not satisfied after gaining access to the home, Adult Protective Services will be called in. Should you mind your own business? Not in our community. You will be doing your part to ensure someone is safe in SCOV. If you need help, call 520-410-9498. After the tones, enter your area code and phone number, then hang up. We will call you back, usually within 30 minutes.
