Divots July 1, 2018 From the Golf Shop Tom MacKinney, PGA Associate July is upon us and if you are wondering where the monsoons are, you are not alone. Rest assured the monsoons will arrive and when they do here are some things to remember. When you see lightning it is time to get off the course. Lightning does not have to be near you to injure or worse. Head home, to the pro shop or restaurant until the storm passes. Do not enter washes when flooded. A depth of only 6 inches of fast moving water can sweep a car away. Think what that would do to a golf cart. So, let’s be aware of our surroundings and always error on the side of caution. Rain Check Policy When adverse weather hits, the pro shop will happily issue a prorated credit receipt for all holes not played. Pass Holder Appreciation Annual pass holders can treat themselves to 2 for the price of 1 Margaritas at The Views Restaurant all month long! Salud!
Aerification Thank you for your understanding during these hot summer months when aerification is so necessary. To insure the course will be ready for overseed in September the next aerification will take place August 6 & 7. The Views Golf Results June 29 marked the first annual Par 3 Team Challenge. 27 two-person teams competed over the front nine in 3 separate divisions, Women’s, Men’s and Mixed couples. Par 3’s were played from 50 yards, par 4’s 100 yards and par 5’s from 100 yards. The winners in the Women’s division were Patti Horning and Sue LaFontaine at 1 over par 28. Men’s winners were Ryan & Van Dunn at 3 under par 24 and our Mixed Couples winners were Joann & Jack Breslin at 2 under par 25. Closest to the pin winners were Hole#3 Van Dunn, hole#5 Anthony Gerrettie and hole #9 Bob Fouch. Thank you all for the overwhelming response for this event. Beat the GM On June 21, Sun City Oro Valley General Manager Mark Wade threw down the gauntlet in the form of a closest to the hole putting contest against all comers. At last count 42 golfers were able to edge Mark out and claim that they “Beat the GM”!!! A fun time was had by all. Mark was last seen in the pro shop signing up for the Wednesday putting clinic. From the Range to the Course A very common lament we hear is the inability for players to take their range session to the golf course. Here is a fun and simple tip to help you have a more seamless transition from the range to the course. On the range there is no fear factor. A bad shot doesn’t ruin a hole. We simply put another ball down and hit again. This allows for a freer swing with less tension allowing the club head to release properly. There is no trouble left, right and short that there is on that first tee. Instead of worrying about taking our game from the range to the course let’s bring the course to the range. When you are on the range play the course in your mind. Visualize that first tee shot and picture it on the range. Hit the club you normally would on the first tee and give it a relaxed confident swing. If you hit your imaginary fairway or close to it imagine the next shot and hit the appropriate club. Play 9 holes or the whole course like this. While on the range make sure to go through a quick pre-shot routine on these shots. Mirror what you do on the course. This will help you take your game from the range to the course. Try it!
