November 2019 From The Pro Shop

Welcome Back! November marks the end of the overseed and cart path only period and the return of many of our winter residents. Our Welcome Back Golf Fiesta will be held on the Driving Range from 11am- 3 pm on Friday November 8. Come out and enjoy $2 margaritas, purchase hot dogs and burgers from the Charley Grill plus free chips and salsa. You will be able to demo the newest clubs from Cobra/Puma, Cleveland, Srixon, XXIO, Henry Griffitts, Taylor Made and Skechers footwear. Special discount pricing will be available. We hope to see you there for this fun event. As part of the Welcome Back event Pro’s Tim Lochner and Tom MacKinney will be offering FREE 10-minute golf tune ups for your golf games. Sign up sheets are available now in the Pro Shop for Ten Minute Tune Ups with Timmy or Tommy during the month of November! On Wednesday, November 6, the everpopular Yappy Hour returns from 4-5:30 pm on the driving range. This is a fun event for our two and four-legged friends to mix and mingle. We will have beer and drink specials and treats for the pups! All social dogs with up to date shots are welcome. Leashes required! This month, we will be forming teams for the Fall Series of Play with the Pro’s. Each pro: Rick Price, Tim Lochner and Tom MacKinney, will field three teams and play one ball gross, one ball net format to determine which teams advance to the finals. Sign-up sheets will be available in the Pro

On November 25, The Views Golf Club will be hosting the 2019 Pro Member Invitational. Area professionals and our own Views pro’s will each be playing with their guest and two Views members. The format will be one best ball net and one best ball gross. Look for sign ups online and in the pro shop coming soon. The Views Golf Club Staff would like to thank the many volunteers we had for the Run the Views 5K. Without their help, it would not have been possible to put on this event for the community and The First Tee of Tucson. Thank you! The Gate System As we come off overseed and cart path only restrictions, we have implemented the Gate System. Golfers must now enter through the gates (blue stakes) nearest the tee box and keep carts in the fairway until exiting through the gates nearest the green. Please be respectful of this to ensure the excellent conditions we have grown accustomed to. Sand and seed mixture is now available to use for filling your divots in the fairway only. The second hole has not been overseeded. Please refrain from filling divots on hole #2. Thank you! A Pet Peeve Do you know the proper way to fill a divot? When filling a divot with your sand and seed mixture, please do your best to fill the divot even with the surrounding turf. This will allow the seed to take easier and protect the mower blades. As play increases, let’s all do our best to fill those divots. Thank you! A Tip from the Pro To chip or putt? That is the question. Club selection from off the green has many variables. Do I need to get the ball over a

bunker, is the grass wet, is the grass thick, am I on hardpan, what’s the lie like? We all have a good idea how a ball will react when putting on the green. We will rarely hit a putt “fat” or “thin”. For those reasons, it makes sense to putt from the fringe or collar of the green. A good rule of thumb is to use the putter from off the green when whenever you can. Chances are you’ll get the ball closer to the hole than chipping. Practice from various spots around the green using both your putter and a wedge or 9 iron and find out what club is the most consistent and works best for you. I’m betting it’s the putter! Hit em’ straight, and we’ll see you on the course. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
