MARCH 2020 Message from the Director of Golf Rick Price, PGA We are excited to announce that The Views Golf Club will do a major golf course reconstruction project starting the spring of 2020. "IMPROVING OUR COURSE TO MAKE YOUR EXPERIENCE EVEN BETTER." The schedule for reconstruction of the golf course greens, driving range tee, practice putting green, and short-game area will start on April 27, 2020. The golf course will be open during construction and played as a par 68 with all play starting on hole #10. The course will play maximum distance of approximately 5,500 yards. There will be three different sets of tees. The temporary greens are being prepared now to provide the best quality putting surface as possible. Our existing TifDwarf greens will be replaced with Tifeagle greens. The green complexes will be cored out 18 below the surface. The green surrounds will be sodded, and the green surfaces sprigged. All new grass areas will NOT be over-seeded for the winter. A minimum of a year is required to establish the new sod before winter rye-grass could be seeded into the Bermuda grass, or it will be severely damaged the following season. There is a strong possibility we will not over-seed the fairways and paint the fairways. Review USGA video on painted fairways CLICK HERE. However, the tees will be over-seeded. It would allow us to play the greens Labor Day Weekend in September and not close the golf course for three weeks for over-seeding or have golf cart restrictions in the fall. We will have more information about this operational decision soon. The greens project is essential to the long-term success of our community and golf

course. We will add special value promotions during this time to play The Views Golf Club. Thank you for your continued support and understanding during the construction period.

Updated News Warmer temperatures are on the way. This has been a wet and cold winter so far, but the promise of Spring is in the air. As we are now in March and temperatures are becoming moderate, be on the lookout for rattlesnakes. They like to come out and sun themselves on our cart paths and bunkers. They also like to hide and blend in the desert landscape so be careful when looking for your partner's ball in the desert. Many of you have asked about the upcoming greens reconstruction project. Here is the latest update: As a reminder the temporary greens are all marked and it is imperative that we do not hit off or drive over them. You must take a free drop from these marked areas. This will allow us to provide a better putting experience once we transition over to the temporary greens. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. While we are on the subject of rules, please pick up a complimentary book of the newest copy of the Rules of Golf. We have an ample supply in the Pro Shop. Great Shots Heard Around The Views Golf Club Valentines Day was good to Yvette Schulz. Yvette made a hole in one on the 12th hole on February 14. She used a driver from 161 yards. Way to go, Yvette! Not to be outdone, three days later on February 17, Marie McCusker aced the 7th hole. Marie used a 5 iron from 133 yards. Nice shot, Marie! While playing in the Winter Series Play with the Pro’s February 21, Jim Austin aced the 7th hole. Jim used a 9 iron from 134 yards. Congratulations, Jim! On February 18, The Views Golf Club, and the Women’s 9-Hole Club hosted the Cure for Cancer Golf Tournament. This event raised over $23,000 dollars with proceeds going to the University of Arizona Cancer Center. Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers and participants. A special shout out to co-chairpersons, Carol Johnson and Cathy Peterson, on organizing for this worthy cause. Job well done! On Sunday, February 16, to celebrate Valentine's Day, we held our Annual Valentine's Couples Tournament. In a scorecard playoff, Jana & John Pitstick finished 1st place, Stan & Lesley Chace were 2nd and Ilene Blum & Richard Whitaker placed 3rd. Thanks to all who played.

Who’s Your Buddy? You may have noticed that the process for booking tee times online has changed a bit. It now requires you to select ALL players in your tee time from your Buddy List. You may only add your own name once. Not sure how to configure your Buddy List? No problem! Call the Golf Shop or stop in to get a quick tutorial on how to add buddies. You can add anyone in the system to your Buddy List. If you have a new guest, please contact the Golf Shop to add them to the system before you book a starting or have the golf staff assist you booking the time. This improved online booking process will help to simplify tee time management and ensure that unconfirmed players are not taking up times on the tee sheet. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we continue to improve the system. March 21-22 - The Views Golf Club will host the Oro Valley Amateur Championship. Lesson Tee Do you come up short on your approach shots? You think you have chosen the correct club for the distance, but you consistently are chipping on to the green for your next shot instead of putting for birdie? What yardage are you playing to? Most golfers now use GPS to the flag and that’s good, but what about knowing what the yardage is to the front or to the back of the green. Some greens have a 3-4 club difference front to back. Next time you play try taking a 6 iron instead of a 7, or an 8 instead of a 9 iron. Club down a club. Doing that may put you on the back of some greens but chances are you are not hitting every approach shot flush. Plus, the extra club will make you swing easier and within yourself and this will help with more solid contact. Also, try aiming for the center of the green. Don’t go for that pin tucked behind a bunker. Aim for the center and club down one club and you will stop coming up short and start hitting more greens and putting for more birdies. Go play and have fun!
