OCTOBER 2020 Message from the Director of Golf Rick Price, PGA We are so excited to open the course on October 12 with our new greens and overseeded tees and fairways. As a reminder, there was no over-seeding on all the newly sodded areas around the greens, approach areas, and driving range tee. The new driving range tee will remain open during the time we have the course closed through October 11. We expect the putting green will open before October 12. However, we do not have a scheduled date. The first tee time on October 12 is 6:56 am and will change weekly every eight minutes until we reach 8:00 am. The Pro Shop will open an hour before the first tee time and close at 5:00 pm daily starting October 12. From now through Sunday, October 11 we are open from 9:00 am -12:00 pm. On Monday, October 12, we will have a grand re-opening for Members and Residents only. You will make your starting times as normal. There will be some special hole contests on the course for closest to the pin, a prize for low gross score for the day and a few other surprises. To kick off the day, we have some Greens re-construction project committee members and our Golf Design Architect Mike Gogel set to test the course as a thank you for all the hard work they put into the project over the past five months.
Once we reopen on October 12, golf carts must remain on the cart path only for two weeks. The projected date for golf carts to drive on the grass will be Monday, October 26. As a reminder, our golf cart policy is two golf carts per group. Unless you have a private golf cart, you may continue to ride as a single if you wish. Once we allow cart traffic on the course only two carts will be allowed in the fairway or rough at a time. Any additional carts in the group will need to remain on the cart path. The Views Golf Club cannot provide individual golf carts for each player. If you do not know the person you are riding with in the cart, we would recommend you wear a mask, consider walking, or do not book a tee time if you are uncomforable riding with someone you do not know. Thank you for your understanding in this matter as we do not have enough golf carts in our fleet to accommodate a single rider request. We will have some single rider golf scooters available in November.
We would ask your help when driving your golf cart around the tees and greens to keep the cart on the path at all times. In these uncertain times, we continue to promise to provide professional, friendly service,
including a positive, memorable golf experience. It is our goal to add as much value to your experience while offering you a safe atmosphere to enjoy the game. There has never been a better time to join our membership! We are excited about the latest changes to the golf course and look forward to the 2020-21 season.

Lesson Tee SHORT GAME AND PUTTING I know we are all looking forward to playing on our newly constructed greens and surrounds. After playing on our temporary greens for the last 5 months we’ve probably changed our putting stroke to account for the slower greens. With the shorter course we’ve also become used to hitting short irons into the greens. Here are two tips and some encouragement to help you on the new course. First keep
practicing those short irons. You have been hitting them a lot lately because of the shorter holes, you may need them to save par on the longer par 4’s now. Your short game (from 100 yards and in) will become much more important now. Use the same swing but used different clubs from 100 yards and in. Notice how differently the ball reacts based on the club used. Our new short game area should help you sharpen up the chipping and pitching. As with chipping and pitching, your putting game will face new challenges with the new greens. Focus on distance for both the chipping and putting. Distance control is #1 when putting. If you get the distance right you’ll almost never three putt. To help with distance control put a ball in your hand and pick a target hole on the green that is 30+ feet away. Toss the ball underhand, like bowling, and see how close you can get. Do this a few times until you get that ball in a 3-foot circle around the hole. Now take your putter and use that same tempo/force you did with your golf bowling ball. Put a smooth full stroke on it and watch it get close or who knows, maybe go in! I can’t wait to see all of you experience the new greens and surrounds and enjoy The Views like never before. Fairways and greens to you all. Tom MacKinney, PGA Assistant Golf Professional NOTE: Look for golf weekly golf clinics to start towards the end of October.
Good Read Scientists who study the human brain say that the stream of consciousness can absorb and apply only one thought at a time. This is certainly applicable in the Golf swing. Most of us would agree it is easy to have multiple thoughts or ideas attempting to work themselves out in a single swing. If all of this is true then as a Golfer it would seem focusing on one area of improvement would be the only efficient way to improve. For those seeking to improve this season focus on one thing to improve upon in each practice session. We promise if you bring this intention to every swing you will look back at this season as your best ever! Most importantly, If you don’t purchase new golf grips..none of this is possible. See you on the range!
