ARRIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO Pick up your motorhome from Cruise America in San Francisco to start your adventure through the North Coast and Shasta Cascade regions. From there head north on Highway 101, spending your first night in Petaluma, one of the best-preserved historic downtowns in the United States.
DAY 2
MENDOCINO COUNTY Continue north on Highway 101 meandering through rolling hills and a diverse landscape rich in agricultural heritage. Along the way, visit some of Sonoma Country’s best wineries along the river's banks in the Russian River Valley and sample an array of exceptional wines. Hike the nature trail in Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve near Guerneville. North of picturesque Jenner- by-the-Sea stands Fort Ross State Historic Park, and farther north on the coast is Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve. Continuing north on scenic Highway 1 will lead you to explore numerous parks, beaches and coastal villages. Be sure stop and embrace nature in Gualala Point Regional Park. Just north of the park a must see is Point Arena historic lighthouse. Overnight at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA.
DAY 3
FORT BRAGG The drive north on Highway 1 will lead you towards the coastal town of Mendocino, where fine shops and galleries abound in this renowned artists' colony. Discover 47 acres of beauty and serenity while strolling in the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens by the sea. An easy halfmile walk takes you from well-tended gardens, through a fern-filled canyon, to spectacular vistas at the ocean’s edge. A must for bird-watchers and picnickers alike! From either Fort Bragg or Mendocino, stroll the headlands looking for seals. And, November to April, look for migrating California gray whales. Or board the Skunk Train in Fort Bragg for 40 miles of aweinspiring scenery to inland Willits and back. Just north of Fort Bragg, overnight at Benbow RV Resort & Golf Course in Garberville.
DAY 4
EUREKA The 300-foot-tall redwoods tower overhead when you drive the 31-mile stretch of Highway 1 called the Avenue of the Giants. The trees within Humboldt Redwoods State park are part of the largest remaining forest of virgin redwood trees in the world. Head west to Rockefeller Forest to see the tallest tree. At Meyers Flat, you can pass through the Drive-Thru-Tree. Tour Humboldt Bay by boat, then shop and dine in Old Town Eureka. Between Orrick and Crescent
City are the world's tallest trees-preserved in Redwood Nat'l Park. North of Klamath, you'll be greeted by statues of legendary lumberjack Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, Babe. Crescent City is the northern gateway to the Redwood National Park. Offshore, see the oldest Pacific Coast working lighthouse in Crescent City. Overnight at Eureka KOA. DAY 5
MT. SHASTA Travelling from Eureka east on Hwy. 299 is the start of the Trinity River Scenic Byway, which offers some of the most diverse scenery of any drive in far Northern California. Admire Weaverville's historic sites, and catch insights into pioneer life at the Jake Jackson Museum. Stop by Whiskeytown National Recreation Area to enjoy free kayaking or hiking to one of the many beautiful falls in the area. North on Highway 5, marvel at the castle like natural stone turrets of Castle Crags State Park. In Mt. Shasta where you will find numerous places to hike and swim, or drive along Everitt Memorial Highway to capture breathtaking views of majestic Mount Shasta, 14,179 feet, the second highest peak in the Cascades. Overnight at Mount Shasta City KOA.
DAY 6
HAT CREEK Mt. Shasta take highway 89 toward McCloud. This will tie you into one of California’s only All American Roads: the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway. Enjoy the beauty of this scenic drive as you make your way down to one of the regions most prized attractions: McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park featuring a 129-foot-high waterfall that transports you to a tropical island. Subway Cave offers an opportunity to walk through a volcanic lava tube, a 1/3 mile long cave. . Besides a sweater, we’ll provide a flashlight, as there is no lighting inside this volcanic spectacle. Have picnic lunch and try your fly fishing skills on Hat Creek. Overnight at Hat Creek Hereford Ranch RV Park.
DAY 7
REDDING Lassen Volcanic National Park will provide numerous opportunities to see the results of millions of years of volcanic activity. Hike to the top of 10,457-foot Lassen Peak, or hike Bumpass Hell, a three-mile round trip, and one of the most scenic trails in the park. A visit to the park includes a brief stop at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor’s Center. Continue to Redding for a visit to Turtle Bay Exploration Park for a peek at local wildlife as well as local Native American History. Don’t miss the opportunity to try out their Segway tours. Marvel at the beauty of Redding’s Sundial Bridge, the largest Sundial in the world and take a relaxing stroll down the famous Sacramento River National Recreation Trail. Overnight at Fawndale Lodge & RV Resort.
DAY 8
Approx. 200 miles brings you back to SF to Cruise America depot to return RV.
