Carman Miller, a 71 yearold salesman for Ro-Mac Lumber & Supply Inc., won the Florida Building Material Association’s Pinnacle Award Sept. 23 during the 2011 Gulf Atlantic Building Products Expo. This is the first year the FBMA has given the award, which recognizes Florida’s top construction retail sales person. “I was very humbled. I appreciated the support of my peers and all the people who voted for me; but it’s not all about me, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the great company that I work for,” Miller said. Miller works at The Villages Ro-Mac Lumber location and has been with company since 1959. The Pinnacle Award is
designed to recognize sales people who make a positive impact on the building community. “No one influences building contractors’ product decisions more than the retail salespeople who regularly call on them. It is fitting that the salespeople who are the heart of the industry receive the recognition they deserve,” FBMA President Bill Tucker, wrote in an email to nominees. Miller was nominated by Ro-Mac Store Manager Lewis Duke. Four finalists were chosen from a dozen nominees. “He is such a hard worker and a great salesman. I think the advantage that he has over a lot of other salespeople is his experience. He has earned the respect of a lot of customers who value his
knowledge and experience because he’s been in the business for so many years,” said Duke. The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with a panel discussion entitled, “People Who Have Succeeded Discuss the Attributes of a Successful Sales Person,” in which Miller participated. During his 52 years at Ro-Mac, Miller has consistently achieved top sales including winning the H. D. Robuck, Sr. Founder’s Award, an award given to the highest-earning sales person, 14 years in a row; and four Lake County Home Builders Association Spike Awards. Miller has been married to his wife, Menda, for 53 years, and they have four children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
