TAVARES Home builders association announces winner for coveted Spike Award The Home Builders Association of Lake-Sumter has awarded Don Magruder, CEO of Ro-Mac Lumber & Supply, the coveted Spike Award for outstanding membership recruitment during the past year. When asked why he considers membership in the association so important, he said, “It is the right thing to do if we are going to survive as an industry. We MAGRUDER must fight together in our challenges.” Magruder recruited 11 new members to the association during the last calendar year and earned more “Spike” points than any other member. He also served as chair of a recruitment team during one of the most successful drives in the history of the association. Magruder joined the association in 1998 and earned his way into the Spike Club, an elite group of Association members recognized for outstanding achievement in membership. Magruder is a Red Coat Spike, having accumulated 150 points for his efforts. The Home Builders Association of Lake-Sumter is a non-profit trade industry association representing 240 construction companies and associated business industries. Formed in 1973, the HBA is the local affiliate of the National Association of Builders (NAHB) and the Florida Association of Home Builders (FHBA).

Lennar reports record sales in active adult communities at Heritage Hills in Clermont; and Heritage Isle in Viera ORLANDO — Lennar’s Central Florida division reports sales of new, active adult, single-family homes and villa homes at Heritage Hills in Clermont and Heritage Isle in Viera in Brevard County have surged to record levels since the start of the year. Mark Metheny, president of Lennar’s Central Florida Division, said since Jan. 1, Lennar sold more than 20 new homes in the two communities where the homebuilder offers villas priced from the $120s and manor homes from the $160s. “We are seeing signs that confidence in the U.S. economy is improving and many active adults who put off their retirement when the recession began are now relocating to Florida,” Metheny said. “There is significant pent-up demand for active adult lifestyles in Florida at the same time that the first baby boomers reach retirement age.” Metheny said Lennar’s stock of ready-to-move-in villa homes at Heritage Isle is down to less than half-a-dozen

Stone Creek in Ocala opens $4.2 million Del Webb model Home Center with 10 models ready for viewing OCALA — Officials from the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce joined Del Webb executives and trade partners to cut the ribbon, opening a new $4.2 million model home center at Stone Creek — Del Webb’s newest active adult golf course community located at 6320 S.W. 89th Court Road in Ocala. More than 2,000 potential home buyers visited Del Webb’s grand opening of its model park at Stone Creek on Feb. 19 with food, refreshments, live music and 10 new models for viewing. Sean Strickler, vice president of sales and marketing of Del Webb in North Florida, said the response exceeded everyone’s expectations during the weekend event. “What an awesome event,” Strickler said. “We were thrilled with the turnout and people were so gracious. All along we’ve felt Stone Creek will be one of our most successful active adult communities and our grand opening event certainly starts us off in that direction. The response further affirms that Del Webb is the leader in active adult communities.” Del Webb’s single-family homes at Stone Creek are priced from the $130s to the $260s.
