Akhil Garg Sharavan Villa (Gurgaon)
Shravan Villa, a contemporary abode for a businessman in Gurgaon, has a sinuous envelope with wide overhangs that provide shading for the hot eastern and western sun, and opens up to the north and south. The underside of the ceiling is clad in epay wood planks. There is an extensive low-e glazing that affords views to the north. Good natural cross ventilation is provided when the large sliding glass doors are opened, allowing cool breeze to flow through the spaces. Externally, recycled timber is utilized; this helps to reduce heat gain.

conspicuous On the ground floor are the master bedroom and several ample social spaces, as well as a winter garden, kitchen, sauna, etc. The upper floor is the children's realm, comprising a living room, bedrooms and activity zone. The enclosed public spaces open towards the garden through a channel by the north. The house is preceded by a paved esplanade built to prolong the approach of the visitor towards the access, where the aquatic piece gains a major presence. The strict character of the house arises from two settings first, the need to preserve the regular warmth of the house, which translates into a pathway that runs along the entire length of the house.
“Upon entering through the main door frame, the space opens up to reveal the swimming pool and the public living areas of the house with a magnificent spiral cantilevered staircase in combination of wood and glass.

timeless design
Epay wood is an important material, which is used as decking for the balconies and indoor pathway. Finally, the house includes various elements of timber such as the main entrance door and the sun louvers that conceal the service areas.

the challenges The house is surrounded by old bungalows which are in dilapidated condition so the challenge was to overcome that and we designed an inward looking house with a beautiful courtyard. Spaces were planned with lesser walls and barriers, to make it feel connected visually. Skylights were also designed in all bedrooms and toilets to flood the area with natural light and create the play of light and shadow.
the influences Employed is a contemporary fusion of Sri Lankan, Thai and Mediterranean design elements with products imported specifically to complete the overall design.
