Amrita Guha & Joya Nandurdikar The Three Tree House: Sawhney House (New Delhi)
The clients run a successful business of cements and PVC. The house stands on a 50 year old property which was built at an angle to the plot needed a complete up-to-date makeover keeping the previous structure intact and it also needed to be aligned to the plot. The aspirational quotient of the clients was high and the design aims to capture that feeling unto the planning and interior design of the house. The house has ample of natural light, ventilation and reflective personal style of its dwellers.

articulate The house has a massive column 2'x1' at an angle cladding with solid wood rounded members became the focal point of the living room, attached was a long cantilevered structure housing the fire place finished in micro-concrete. An antique Kerala temple door was sourced for the puja room and combined with a fabric sandwiched glass and a brass handle. The neutral colour palette was achieved by using white makrana marble, leather finish and honed granite, limestone like Bidasar green, Kadappa, Andhra Grey, Kota and kharera grey.

embracing nature The landscaping was planned keeping in mind the client's obsession with the nature. A fifteen feet high exposed concrete wall was created to incorporate a spout feeding the water body adjacent, which houses a family of colourful Koi fish. The adjacent garden can be accessed by a bridge.

the challenges The original layout was at an angle of 45 degree to the rectangular plot. Thus, to turn it in to a symmetrical space as per the client's wish all structural beams and columns were shifted at a specific angle.
