Yatin Kavaiya & Jiten Tosar Neer Bungalow (Vadodara)

Built for an unprejudiced and simple Gujarati family, this house is a smooth amalgamation of landscape, modern trappings and typical Guajarati culture. It creates its own identity by standing regally amidst high–rise buildings in the streets of Vadodara. The design and execution has given a much valued feeling of a traditional Gujarati house in midst of the city. Each space in the house opens on the outside edge, in the garden giving an individual identity and justifying all the smallest functional aspect, regardless of form, separating private and public spaces which are flexible to change. The house has the unusual combination of geometrical and abstract floral designs. The designs have been deliberately chosen with a rational scheme for every small part of the house.

the challenges The whole house needed to be built around an old kailashpati tree. The position of the tree in the plot was disturbing. While constructing the foundation, the team had to take care of the tree so that it wouldn’t have to be felled as a consequence.

the influences The charm of the house lies in a beautiful fusion of ethnic elements and modern concepts. A single concept runs throughout the house and yet the rooms have their individual identity. The outcome is something valuable yet graceful, giving pleasure to both the client and the designers.
