Sandeep Sikchi Runwal’s Bungalow (Pune)

The project brief was to face-lift the house for the second time since the original construction, with a new vision for the client. This single storied house is sectionally open and organizes every room in the house perfectly, adhering to principles of Vastu Shastra. The house's design was developed in response to the aspirations and needs of the family residing - the desire for internal open space to aid visual and aural contact while concurrently responding to the need for security and privacy. The double height living area with a cut-out on the ceiling under the skylight connects vertically to the floor above. This allows the feeling of openness into the house during the day, while at night the inside lights faintly floods out. The endlessly changing qualities of natural light, in which the room is a different room every second of the day. That’s the essence of a skylit room. The dining area seems a subtle demarcation through the checkered glass wall. It opens to the lawn allowing the residents enjoy the striking landscape.

the challenges Design is a journey of discovery, projects/clients are points of interest along the way. The challenge was to reorient myself to the need of the new client and modify without affecting the old concept and switch to the new requirements within a span of 6-8 months of completing the same. The process was/is the journey and the project a by-product.
